very annoying weird battery issue,it just dies !

new battery , the car is on a tender when parked in the garage .i will take the car out drive around go run errands , i will start and turn the car off 3-4 times in the meantime,( starts right up) and then , out of the blue i will come out of the store, try to start it up and its completely dead.

i mean no power what so ever. no lights on the dash, it wont crank over as if the battery is dead ,nothing.. then i have to pop the front get the jump pack out and hook it up to start the b1tch back up... very annoying and aggravating.

any idea what this could be or why its doing it? is it some of short somehwere?
could it be when i lock or unlock the car vie key remote it shorts up?

ignition switch?

First check where the cable grounds right near the battery, make sure it is clean and tight then check the ground on the passenger rear chassis rail.It is in between the intercooler and motor /turbo.Make sure it is tight and the connection is clean. After those two check out move to the connections on the starter(less likely) Sounds like a grounding problem.

This may be a dumb question, but did you check your voltage gauge? Does it show 14V or lower than 12V? If it's lower than 12V, then it could be your alternator. And the battery is not recharging after every start.

The normal battery consumption of a turbo at rest is 40 to 60 ma. If you got a way to measure current like an ammeter.

Joe i will check the grounds for sure.

christian , it could be a short but i dont think it kills the battery just like that instantly, its shorting something and not letting the car start.

as for the alternator , i think its good, i havent tested it with anything. if the car is running and i remove the negative from the battery , and the car keeps running that means the alternator is good right? i was always told easiest way to check for the alternator.

Any possibility your car is drawing extra current while it is off?

You can use a 20 amp multimeter. Putting the meter in series with the battery’s ground circuit, disconnect the battery’s ground cable and wire the multimeter in series between the battery terminal and the cable. Start with the meter on the highest range, like 20 amps, then gradually reduce the meter’s scale to the appropriate low range, probably 2 amps or 200 mA. This will be parasitic drain on the battery when the ignition is off.

Once you know how much drain your battery is seeing, you can start pulling fuses and watch the meter. Obviously you may reset some computer components, but this will tell you the affected circuit.

I'm going to side with "BNG4GOD"

Have a look at your voltmeter to see what it's reading when the car is running
Or, for a more accurate reading, check the voltage with a Durametric

I had the same symptoms are you have described

My problem was a faulty alternator voltage regulator

I replaced the regulator on the back of the alternator and it was all fine again

So - check your voltage

Bad or corroded connection? Did you try moving the cables around a bit?
