back on the turbo kick...what year to buy between 2001-2003?
#17
Introduced in 2000 as a 2001 model - so they wouldn't have made any serious changes = 1st year.
RMC- You ain't gonna be around to see it... Do you really think a 2001 is going to be worth more than an 02> in 30 years just because it was the first MY 996tt? I am sure that some moron collector car salesman will try to make this argument. Anything to make a car more 'special' than all others. Loada crock. The price difference between the 01s and the 02> will disappear and that's about it.
I do agree, tho, that unless you are planning on taking the car to the track, the average turbo owner will never feel the difference in stiffness between the earlier and the later models.
Buy the best tt you can find for your money - and pay more attention to miles, condition, & the options you want to make you happy than the MY. That will make you more happy in the long run. My 5 cents.

stevemfr as rude as you are I will answer yes I do because this car is way under rated and unique in that it was shuned honestly because of the headlights and being different and lastly because people buy them mostly because they can afford the entry level tt price or because they intend to beat the sh** out of them.In 30 years you will be able to count the clean stock 996tts on one hand lol.I bought the car I have because I like quirks like no glovebox cassette holders in dash etc and because I liked the color,I can afford what I want.

I can live with being called a moron but a car salesman lol. My last rebuttal is that in time the 996tt will be kinda like Ferraris Dino abused and put away wet but at some point realized as a great car.

rmc - I wasn't directing that at you! I hope you're not a collector car salesman either...
I was just setting up a scenario 30 years in the future where some collector car dealership tries to make that one 996 just a tad more special than all the others. I happen to think that 98% of what you read in ads like that is a loada. ('first Camaro ever pinstriped by a dealer', 'sat in once for 10 mins by Steve McQueen' )
I do disagree with you (respectfully!) on 2001s becoming more valuable than other year 996tt's. Gotta hand it to you tho - if I thought someone called me a moron I would not have remained nearly as polite as you have.

I do not think it will be worth more than say a 2005 996tts but a low mileage first year car will be rare and bring a good price,in my op I said it was a bargain and the one to have in the future I stand by that.

As with many other used cars, a good rule of thumb is to buy the newest and nicest that you can afford. This advice would apply to the 2001-2005 996TT as well. Best wishes!

..agreed.

It was about the price/value in the 996 turbo line up..
Also,I bet some of these members could also,including myself,buy a Ferrari,,SO ?

I really want white or yellow, but when i do find one, its above my price limit, and its an auto BLAH!
Id like something unique, but it looks like its going to be silver. I never want another black car again. Looks great, but my god its impossible to keep nice. It seems milage is not a big concern with these motors, so Id say around 40-60k miles is ok. The hunt is on!

I have a friend who is looking to sell his 2002 but it's probably outside your desired spending range. Silver on black, PSS9's, aerokit, BBS E88 wheels, ~46K miles on the clock. I just rebuilt the motor with forged internals, Alpha A28's, RUF clutch, EPL tune. I'm not 100% positive on his price but if it's something you'd be interested in I can ask for you. Car is at my shop now.

Johnspeed wanted to be part of the discussion Im being nice.My point and only point is that say if a person has an unlimited budget to by a 996tt he may find say a 2003 that he flips over and buys it.Most guys it seems here track/mod their cars so Im sure Im the odd ball.I use to mod all my cars but got tired of wasting the money
