back on the turbo kick...what year to buy between 2001-2003?
Johnspeed wanted to be part of the discussion Im being nice.My point and only point is that say if a person has an unlimited budget to by a 996tt he may find say a 2003 that he flips over and buys it.Most guys it seems here track/mod their cars so Im sure Im the odd ball.I use to mod all my cars but got tired of wasting the money
I already have a 600hp/600tq corvette that is a stripped GT car, so I have my fast toy for the track. This will be my daily driver and im sure I will dig into it alittle, but not a ton. Just want a solid, strong car. Ive gotten a couple PMs with great cars, but I need to ditch my 2004 M3. I found a dealer who is working on a deal with me. What do you guys think of this car?

Here is what the dealer said...I know the coolant tank isn't a big deal, but to not have it fixed to sell is kinda ****ty. The pipe I'm concerned about
The Porsche is in excellent condition – I have put over 1500 miles on the car myself and we just had it serviced by the Porsche dealer. It only had two fairly minor issues come up in the full inspection – one is a cracked coolant expansion tank bottle, which is the plastic bottle in which the coolant goes when it expands quickly and the car gets warm, and the other is a loose fitting on one of the intercooler hoses such that it comes loose under WOT at high speed (does not affect performance whatsoever, just throws a PSM code that resets as soon as you turn the car off/back on). Neither are imperative issues and would cost about $1400 total, parts and labor, to fix at the Porsche dealer -probably less at an independent.

I had cash no trade still bought from dealer, it worked out ok but I found out a long time ago that no matter how clean /right it looks at purchase there will be things you find after that you didnt see= cost you money lol. I had a self dimming rearview mirror that was hazy didnt really notive had it rebuilt 100 not to bad and the rear tires while not bad had more wear than I can accept another 1000 or so.My car has 12800mi roughly.Hold out you will find the right one, maybe sell your car and gain a little money on that end.
This was his comment to the issues. Any truth to these?
No issues driving car home. Coolant isn't leaking - just a crack in the expansion/overflow tank. It may seep some out of that but none from the actual system. No boost issues either. I drove the car back from maine with both of these items. Minor issues, but I wanted to disclose all I knew
Is like to hold out only for one reason. I want a white one!!! But tough to find in my price range. Basic stuff is fine...brakes, tires, ect. I just don't want a coolant leak from the motor or some tube I have to pull the motor to fix.

Coolant only comes from one place the system so yes it will go low depending on how fast it leaks. You can replace expansion tank in car there are dyis on search.A white car is hard to find so your right about that= its just my opinion but I beleive the white color thing going on now is a fad that will pass quickly. The price is not that far out of wack on the car your looking at if your serious get a ppi and get them to repair on there dime.

The loose fitting on the IC hose is another thing that should be very easy to fix unless there's a bigger problem going on. The connection is done with a hose clamp so you just have to tighten it to fix it. The fact they haven't done that means they're really lazy (which they obviously are since they haven't fixed these two issues prior to posting it for sale) but also could indicate a bigger problem. And saying that it doesn't cause any issue is total BS. It's throwing a CEL so obviously something is going wrong when it happens! When an IC hose comes loose, normally the car goes into limp mode.
That by itself isn't necessarily dangerous unless you lose power right at the moment when you need it to make a pass or a bit of power to keep the rear end tucked in to prevent a spin. Trust me I had this issue happen where I went into limp mode during a high speed corner and didn't have power to keep the rear end planted and did a spin at over 100. Thankfully it was on a track so all I did was go off into the dirt but on a road it could be catastrophic!
Shady seller plus a car with issues that should be easily fixable? Keep looking!
