Update on "whining" noise

I brought my car in today to the service dept to get resolution on the infamous "whining" noise that occurs when coasting in gear around 2000rpm. Sounds like there are many TT owners that hear this as well.

In short, this appears to be "normal", and is related to the hydraulic pump. It is a known issue, and is caused by pressure building up in the pump after high revs. The whining noise is the pressure being relieved if the clutch is not engaged. (Since I am not a real techie, I am probably bastardizing the explanation, but this is the gist of it). They see this in virtually every 996 TT, and has no bearing on mileage, age of car, etc. Many people don't notice, as the clutch is usually engaged via up/down shifting after high revs. I happened to notice since I live in an area with lots of traffic, so going from high speed to low idle is not uncommon.

I'd be curious if you guys think this makes sense. Thanks...

I have me car in for the same issue as we speak. I was told I had a problem with the tank itself? I'll ask more detailed questions when I pick it up later today.

My tt cab does the same thing. My 03 TT coupe did not do this. My 04 TT cab has done it for the last eight months.

They replaces the resevoir. I will let you know if the noise comes back. The factory used to cahnge the full pump (and resvoir out) and the factory found the pumps were fine. Now they just replace the resevoirs.
