Box Stock 03 TT Whats Next?
Hey Gang,
996tt stock.. non x50
I have been reading and it seems there are so many going from stock to gorrilla in one step..
Is there a baby step program that I can do with my car?
I got it in March with 9000 miles on it. Now has 13500. New tires and 00 mods outside of aftermarket floor mats to preserve the originals.
Looking for a next level (safe) do it right mod for some more power without losing resale and making the car temperamental in the heat.. Key Word .. do it right.. no half assed..
Thanks for the advice..

Please do coilovers first and drop that sucker. PSS10's or similar. Then, tune, exhaust and DV'S at the same time.
Get a Pbox and get your "stock" cars data first, ie: 1/4 mile times and 60-130. Makes your upgrades seem much more valuable.

If you want to keep as close to stock as you can:
Europipe exhaust looks like a polished version of stock, Go with the larger diameter version.
Tune that you can flash back and forth yourself (Softronic)
X73 package if you can find one...if not PSS10 but don't drop is so far you can't get a decent street alignment out of it.
997.2 intercoolers (Suncoast)
Solid rubber RS motor mounts (Suncoast)
997 tranny mount (Suncoast)
997 short shift (Suncoast)
DV's wait till they go out then go with the Bosch (Audi) versions (all the fancy billet after market ones seem to develop leaks).
Most dealers won't even notice these changes nor should a future buyer object to any of them

I have been researching this myself. My car came with an intake, exhaust, headers, diverter valves and a tune but it was inconsistent. Sometime it ran 1.2 bar of boost which felt great but most of the time it was 0.6-0.8 which seemed so slow after experiencing the 1.2bar.
I would say, Intake, exhaust, diverter valves, 5 bar fuel pressure regulator, and a tune to run 1-1.2 bar of boost all the time which is pretty fast. Adding a water\methanol injection to that setup will help increase inter cooling efficiency by reducing intake air temps and also protects your engine by helping with pre detonation. Methanol adds octane.
Next step would be either doing the 18G wheel upgrade for your turbos or getting K24s with 20G upgrade, Turbo intakes, seems the flexible ones are a better way to go if you ask me along with injectors, better intercoolers, and a retune. Im pretty sure you will fry your clutch in a hurry at this point.
If you could do all this at the same time, you will save money on tuning and it would make a huge difference from get go. I have been told that would be in the ballpark of 650hp at the crank.
If you do it smart, it would cost a whole lot less. For example, instead of buying a 5k exhaust like the GMG one, you can get a good 2.5-3K one where the difference can go towards something else. 5K for an exhaust seems redicilous; two cats, a few bends, a couple of mufflers and some tips which would cost thousand to fifteen hundred in materials. That price would even be too much for titanium exhaust, or inconel. I like Markski's exhaust which seems more reasonably priced.
Most of us wouldn't need more than the 18G turbo upgrades. By upgrading the internals of the stock turbos the car is more of a sleeper. Spec has good clutches that are reasonably priced as well. I run a Spec stage 3 plus with a 12lb aluminum flywheel. I made the mistake of getting the unsprung clutch disk; it chatters. Don't make my mistake, ask for the sprung disk.
I would love to see someone just do the 18G or 20G turbo upgrade from the beginning with just intake, fuel pressure regulator, injectors and a tune to see what kind of numbers that would put down. 1600 for the turbos, 800 for the intake, 135 for the fuel pressure regulator, diverter valves 200, tune 1500. I don't even think the injectors are needed but 600 for the injectors. That adds up to $4835. I wonder if that would make 550 at the wheels. Oooopppss, I forgot the water\meth kit which is around $500 which changes the total to $5335. I would love to see what kind of power that setup would make.
If you don't mind the loud exhaust, you could just go to your local muffler\exhaust shop, have them take off the whole exhaust, put a cat on each side and go straight out the back; no mufflers. That has got to be less than a thousand.

EPL is currently running a K16 flash special with free diverter valves.
I think it's by far the best bang-for-the-buck mod for the car. 100 extra hp is definitely noticeable!

If you plan to do a progression of mods you should first pick a tuner and stick with him. It will likely cost you more at the outset but may save money in the long term. If you do ad hoc mods on your own there's a chance things will get mismatched and not only would you not achieve your goals you may end up with costly do-overs. If your eventual goal is big power choosing a tuner early is a requirement.
If you are going to buy OEM parts,,call around to see who gives you the best price then call SunSet Porsche,800-346-0182, because they have always had a better price then SunCoast or anyone else when I needed to buy..
Having a good tuner is important, but its not an easy task to choose.
Places like GMG, Evoms, GIAC, charge an arm for a tune that they send you or you send them your ecu and they flash it and send back. $3500 for a map which they have a ton of already? Seriously??
You don't even pay that to a Motec Tuner that will come to an engine or a chassis dyno to tune\map your car. Believe me, I have done it. They have all the timing tables already, fuel maps that are pretty close depending on your mods, etc. If you had a race car which is totally custom with different turbos, heads, cams, displacement, etc. etc. and needed a tune from scratch then $3500 would make sense. Otherwise, its daylight robbery!! They should wear a ski mask and have a gun when they give you the bill. lol
I like a drink or a meal before I get fu@%ed
Btw, I am totally straight, I don't want to hear any gay jokes, I just live in Laguna. muahahaha
Seems pretty straight forward stuff. Depending on how much power you want to make, you can put together a few setups to achieve that goal.
I'm starting to get all worked up with all these crazy prices. They are going to make me go out of my way and have some parts manufactured to help everybody.
Oh NO…! Im going to get it now
