Sorry to beat a dead horse, But I am looking to add a iPod hookup in my 03..

wil this kit work? Is there another kit i should buy ( better price more features sound quality? I just want iphone integration with the head unit controlling the ipod/iphone which will be hidden, unless when i am using Pandora which assume will work as well??

http://shop.dension.com/en/igateway

I have a 03 with no nav, I believe it is a cdr23

Can i get away with is one for only 129$? Will it display the songs on my radio? as well as change the songs from the head unit?

WHats the difference? Thanks in advanced! --Rob

If your head unit doesn't have nav, I don't think is uses the optic loop which makes it much easier to find Ipod adaptors for. However my guess it, the display functions will be limited. Talk to the guy at Bumper Plugs. He sells lots of Denison unit and would know what will work.

that's a very cool find.. if it does work. i'm going to look into it more myself. says it's compatible with the cdr23.. assuming it must work with the "most" system, MY 03 and beyond? few years back i had to pair a motorola thing that hung on my dash via bluetooth to get my i-phone to play thru the system. eventually i just gave up on it as they had to be paired all the time and then you had to dial into a non existent radio station and quickly turn it on before the "pairing" dropped! lol. it was one of those "it worked when it worked" and it sucked. this would be a vast improvement.

Hi, Based upon your car description, it is not a compatible unit. A board sponsor, Eric, at Bumperplugs can give you the final answer, a totally stand up guy and willing to share his knowledge without forcing a sale. The CDR 23 is a fiber optic (MOST) head unit.

I have spent the last 2 weeks installing a Dension 500 unit into a similar car. I have a Bose/CDR23 no CD changer turbo. There is a separate amplifier in the spare tire well. It is connected to the CDR23 head unit via orange fiber cables.

I have installed the Ipod connector and a vintage 20 g ipod in the trunk. It is controllable (barely and not too well) via the head unit. Today, I connected the aux input with an RCA jack and determined if I can run the IPOD with the control wheel. I have to route the cable into the cab and probably use a cigarette jack to mount the iPhone. This has been a work in progress. The menu to control the unit via the head unit, is to say the least, "complex" as there are defaults which the unit will go to and other issues where you have no idea where the Ipod is playing from.

With the CDR23 and no CD changer (CDC) showing up, you will need to go to a dealer or advanced repair shop with a PIWIS to turn on the changer in order to install the dension.

There is a Rennlister "Ldevell" who has a fantastic write up on this very issue.

I hope to post some pics of my install soon to show where I tapped into the power source and fiber buss. PM me if you want some more info. Good luck and may the force be with you.

Sorry for the long post
