New 3" X pipe exhaust
Eventually!!
I was wondering when someone would fit those to their exhaust
All you need to do now is get rid of the cross over (it creates too much back pressure) and then it'll be perfect

X exhausts without any mufflers( at least 10" long etc) will always drone... that is the reason we use 4 mufflers in our X...
good luck.. hope it worked out this time

Attenuating a resonant frequency with mufflers is luck at best. Even OEMs use Helmholtz tubes for the same reason. The calculations to cancel out these frequencies aren't rocket science, but they do work.
My personal Camaro has no mufflers, just a few small canisters to appear "legal". The drone was pretty bad around the highway limit( where I drive if my wife is with me) but fine at higher speeds. I did this same tune-pipe trick on my car and now it's quiet at the exact same speed the drone was bad before. It's shocking the difference they make.
But he just stated that the drone is gone, so what does your statement mean? You have zero faith in the possibility of a muffler having no drone with less than 4 mufflers huh?

Guys
Mufflers have very little/nothing to do with drone
Mufflers help quieten the volume of the exhaust gases
Drone is caused by a harmonic resonance
All you have to do is remove or move the resonance
I could be wrong, but I don't think the exhaust in this thread has no resonance, although I could very well be wrong
What I would guess is that the resonance has been moved to a difference rev range (higher than the 2.5k-3k rpm that we're used to) where the car isn't cruising at
Since the car doesn't cruise at the higher rpm range it gives the impression that all drone is removed
The little that I know about exhausts tells me that the exhaust in this thread is most definitely built correctly in order to reduce the appearance of drone
It's very well built....and the welds are rediculous!
I wish I had talent like that
The one thing I don't like about the exhaust is the cross over design
Whilst it may give a nicer sound, a cross over exhaust will have much higher back pressure than a non cross over design (all other things being equal)
I'd bet a cross over exhaust has as much back pressure as the stock exhaust
(All very much in my opinion of course
)

I was procrastinating making a separate exhaust review thread and some other goodies, but since this thread is back from the grave I'll just post here.
I've been running one of Chris's exhausts for a while now.

I can't comment on the "highly modified" exhaust Jkyll is running, but hopefully the pictures and a few words can help others who may come across this thread in the future.
As you can see, my exhaust is very basic straight through design. I had debated getting resonators at the time, but it was going to substantially increase the wait time and I was impatient so I didn't.
To anyone trying to decide between non-resonated/resonated exhaust for street use, do yourself a favor and get a resonated exhaust.
I had run open downpipe cars in the past and like to think of myself as macho kind of guy who doesn't care about decibel level, or what women who ride in the car think. If I could go back, I'd wait the 6 weeks for a resonated exhaust.
NOW, having said that. The car is very loud (understandably) giving it throttle between 2k-3k. After warming up though and cruising at any speed I find it 100% tolerable with no complaints. Ideally if I could magically make the exhaust 80% as loud as it is, I would, but overall it's not an issue. After all it is a straight through design.
The sounds of the turbos spinning on decel, or even when I blip the throttle a little are perfect and exactly what I was hoping for in that regard.
The exhaust is super light. I could easily maneuver it around with 1 hand, and feel like I could throw it 20 yards. I think it weighs around 10 lbs but don't quote me on that.
The craftsmanship and fit were very good. Chris was pleasant to deal with. If I have exhaust/welding needs in the future I will go back to him.
The install was easy, I did the exhaust and oil change in 3 hours by myself in my driveway without a jack or jack stands.

I can make some videos for anyone that may be interested, but like has already been said, those don't necessarily translate the sound as you'd hear it in person.
Regards,

I think your reading too much into what I said... If anything, I was referring to all those clients who by X exhausts without any mufflers and or cats and initially brag about ZERo drone( to rationalize the moneys spent) only after a few months come back and cry how bad drone is... And yes my 4 muffler version has very little drone... I make the muffler too...

That's cool to see some of the things I had been scratching my head over a while back coming to fruition (and working!) https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ust-drone.html
Looking forward to hearing it with the Helmholtz additions. Did it change the sound at all other than reducing the harmonic drone?

)I hated the part throttle noise/loudness inside the cab on the catless Fabspeed 2.75'' X-pipe between 2,000 to 3,000 rpm which had 4 mufflers also...That also had more of a separate pipe X merge also..

Good Luck..

I know it sounds crazy that the drone is gone, but it really is. Even though I had just spent a bunch of money on the original design I was 100% honest about the drone in my first post. Everything I complained about before is fixed. I don't think it moved RPM's either. Riding around at 4k rpms is loud (as one would expect from a catless 3" exhaust) but it doesn't drone.
