Quick Speaker Question
Quick Speaker Question
On an '01 TT Coupe pulled the cover off the rear speakers and they are 5.25" component speakers with a 1.25" tweet. I have read that the fronts are 4" components with a 1" tweet, so that leaves the front door speakers. Are these 5.25" as well and what are they classified as sub, mid, combinations? Pulling the door covers off is a weekend project so I haven't looked yet. Clearly the panels have to come off since the bottom carpeted portion does not come off by itself. The rear deck box I was asking about in another post turns out to be the shell over the engine and two clips for child seats. A sub box could be put between the 'box' and seat back space. Would this null the need for door speakers if there are subs inn the back? I know everyone has speaker brand preferences but I'm asking more about placement. Any suggestions/info would be appreciated :-)
The front doors are 5.25 and have a separate tweeter in the dash and mid in the door - if I recall correctly. I swapped my fronts out with CDT Audio separates and did two way Focals in the rear. I also put two JL 8" sub boxes behind the seat. They fit although the plastic handles on the back of the fold down seat had to be removed and I used a plywood base under them to buffer the metal frame that houses the ECU under it. I ran two amps in the front - an Alpine digital 4 channel and a sub amp. It sounds pretty good with my Pioneer x930bt.

Up for grabs on opinions,
(1)Focal Access, Morel Maximo line, or Hertz DSX or ECX?
(2)integrated crossovers or externals?
(3) Huge difference between component versus integrated 2-ways since the components would be together in the grill anyway
Really trying to get my head around this and don't want to toss out $$$$ I know these are the 'value' lines of the above names but

I went through the same process in terms of figuring out what to get. I opted to go with good components in the front with crossovers. I just checked and found that I got Hertz up front and CDT audio in the rear. Both sound great.
Throw another into the mix: JL ZR 6" three way, 6 1/2 in door, 4" and tweeter in dash. Crossover under bonnet.
Rears I ran DLS 4" separate with crossover stuffed behind grill and down.
Subs were JL 6.5" x2 in enclosed box .
Power JL 3 channel amp

Just from what I've read seems the JL are great for lower end and coupled with MB quarts for upper range. Been searching on other sites and talked to Focal rep, seems Access is bottom line, then integration, next up if just using head unit, and anything higher line amps are needed it seems like JL and MBQ are midline and Focal and Morel higher at least in price :-) Morel has a Maximo line at the bottom end but haven't been able to read anything more. Too many choices and no great sites to read reviews. Crutchfield is good source on Focals but don't carry Morel, Hertz, etc.
