Clutch replacement costs....thoughts?

Thanks but its just not feasible right now to travel, but I'll keep it in mind for some future work. In any case I've worked a better deal on the labor with the local guy. Parts should be in tomorrow and the car done early next week.

I was told this job done properly needs to have the engine and transmission assembly removed in one piece. Supposey this is how its said to be done by Porsche. They say there is a way to do it just dropping the transmission but it can break other hoses in the process.
Clutch, flywheel, gt2 slave conversion done with drilling and tapping bell housing so that its stock ish along with coolant pipe welding and all gaskets and hoses to the tune of $9500....
Am I getting raped?

Yikes! I had the dealer do my clutch (in Canada) and it was only around $2,500. You might add another $1,000 for your "extras", but $9,500!?!?! The "dealer" time to remove and replace the engine and trans is 12 hours. Shop rate here is $100 per hour. That's just $1,200 for most of the labour you are looking at. Go crazy and call it $2,000. You are not getting more than $3,000 in parts. Run away - fast.

Thats about what I payed for 'the big fix' but I also had them install the EVOMS intake piping, new PS pump and alternator, and basically all hoses and gaskets in the area.

there is no "one piece" removal. the trans is all that needs to be dropped and porsche doesn't drop the engine to r&r a clutch.
my last ( and final ) clutch r&r cost me a grand in parts and 600 to rent a lift for the day. not counting chicken and beer.
per sliders post above. book time could well be 12 hours but we did it in 7 or 8. the extra hour was removing and re-inserting the clutch fork until it lined up. ( like three times! ..argh lol )

Hey - yes they do - I got to play with mine while it was out for my new clutch!

only time(s) i had a dealer mess with my trans was twice in my first 996t while under warranty for a 2nd gear popout repair. that they had to do TWICE! so, understandably i don't trust dealerships OR their book time "prices". but i suppose if they drop the motor to swap the clutch? it would tend to explain their outrageous estimates and cost of ( ahem ) labor!
PS please quit posting pics of yer fancy bbi coils, will ya? #coilenvy lol

Hey - that was the first pic I've ever posted - I haven't seen them in over 5 years!

I am paying 10K and change for the clutch, GT2 slave upgrade, welding coolant lines with BBi inserts, replace some of the coolant lines, replacing diverter valves, RMS, SAI pump, and some other minor work. I think 9500 is in the right ballpark. BTW, the shop was able to pull one of the coolant lines out without heating it up. Ticking time bomb.

clutch was 6 hours labor. though "they'll" tell you 8 at minimum. parts? $1 to $1.5 k tops for a street car. add the coolant line welding ( which i have avoided doing, still scoffing and at 160K+ miles of hard living and counting ) so add $2.5 -3k to that. ( just use jb weld and subract $1k lol )
i would rather play ball in a $5k park for that work. but if ya got it? pay it. you'll appreciate the upgrades either way.
