Clutch replacement costs....thoughts?
SubscribeI posted last week about an oil leak. It was actually hydraulic fluid from the slave cylinder as correctly predicted by some (see link below for that thread).
In any case, an independent Porsche mechanic confirmed it was the slave cylinder. He gave me a few quotes to just replace the slave with stock 996 parts ($1100 with labor), or slave GT2 upgrade (a little more costs), or go ahead and replace the clutch (sachs), flywheel, and slave with GT2 parts. Part costs are right in line with what I expected (about $2900 in all), but he quoted 28.5 hours labor at $90/hour.
There are a lot of threads about clutch replacement costs and this just seems super high. I can call the dealer tomorrow to get a quote on just using stock parts. There are no other independent shops that I know of in the area (Dayton, OH) that are Porsche savvy, so I think it's either this guy or the dealer.
Thoughts/Recommendations?

That's the standard Porsche dealer cost on the clutch. 2900 for parts + like 2-3k for labor.
Total ripoff. I think they quoted me 6k for crap stock parts that can't handle a tune.
Call up Kevin and Ultimate Motor Works. I think I got the GT3RS LTFW + some upgraded sachs clutch for like 1900 shipped? Somethign like that (don't quote me). So better parts for less money.
Then I brought it to an Indy who charged me 2k

Just so it's clear, parts and labor is ~$5900 (2963 parts, 2965 labor, plus tax).Originally Posted by Etchhead
End of the day your looking at ~$4k with a good Indy. This is what's keeping me back from Billet wheel+. It starts adding up quickly - and I've spent a bit lately.
Performance Clutch (Sachs), includes Single Mass Flywheel $2,479.50
996-116-237-90 GT2 Slave $201.25
950-116-086-90 Release fork $185.75
996-423-171-06 Clutch Master Cylinder GT2 $96.25
Labor - $2,565.00T
Plus Tax
We put in a clutch for $800...
forget messing with gt2 conversions... swap the slave( I actually might have a used one) and put in a decent clutch... keep your dual mass FW trust me...
you can do this for half the money....

Good shop will charge 12 Hours or less to do the clutch and stick with the stock flywheel for sure.

I'll call around tomorrow for some more quotes. After some digging there are a few shops here locally that seem to have a name for working on P-cars.Originally Posted by Chris Green@USP

P3 Automotive
Specialty Motorworks
Euroclassics
Won't hurt to ask the dealer too.
I guess anything south of maybe 15 hours labor will be the winner. I'll keep you posted.
I've been to a few shops and difference is +- a couple hundred bucks. $1000 for oem sachs clutch, $1000 for oem flywheel, and $1000 for labor. Judging by the labor costs per hour, Porsche mechanics make money like physicians.

Two more quotes with one from the dealer and all are about the same labor costs; range of only $300. It is what it is. If someone can do it cheaper and wants to come to my house let me know

I am looking for a new clutch setup too (1 bar tune, exhaust, intake), and just wondering why you don't suggest to do a GT2 conversion. Seems like labor-wise, you should do this to eliminate future accumulator and slave issues. Also, which setup do you recommend?Originally Posted by MARKSKI@911tuning
