Does a Porsche have a particular smell?
Okay I went to my kids swim meet yesterday and I park right in front of a gorgeous 930. Burgundy with burgundy fuchs and it looked brand new. Anyway I went over to look at it and the window was cracked down and I took a big sniff and immediately it was like YEAH that is what a 911 smells like.

Counseling doesn't help
You are correct sir! My 3.2 Carrera is 16 years old now and it still smells the same as it did new. There is something about the leather that Porsche uses. You are not alone Budman. Maybe we can get a group discount with the psychologist.
Not all Porsches smell the same. 944's for some reason lost that "Porsche scent" after a couple of years. 911's on the other hand, do seem to keep it. My 95 smells very similar to friend's newer and older 911's. Exept for Buddy's after lunch today.

The mid 80s 911 with full leather smelled even better - more like a roomfull of nicely broken-in leather chairs in a private club. The leather was also MUCH thicker and very smooth .
Full leather interiors these days in newer 911s smell a bit acrid - there's a " chemical " smell also . And it feels tissue thin and has a scratchy feel and looks almost like plastic on the dash areas. OTOH, newer cars w/o full leather smell hardly at all after awhile .

Old Porsches smell like oil. They don't have the same smell any more. Even after the 1989 964 series it is not as bad so its not just an air coiled thing. The 930s and the 3.2s and earliers make you smell like oil if you drive them far enough. I have had several and they are all the same.
