Front Drop Link Suggestions

I discovered a broken drop link on my front swaybar last night. The ball joint had pulled out of the link. It appears that the plastic ball joint cup broke causing the issue.

I'm now shopping for new drop links. I would like something a little more rubust than the plastic stock pieces, but have no need for adjustable links (this is purely a street car).

You have the stock links at one end of the price range and then it moves up in price to AMS, Tarett and then TRG. All except the stock links being adjustable.

What other options are out there?

Thanks, Steve

I noticed that some companies have different end link if your running Bilstein PSS10's.

I have PSS10's, why is there a difference?

I recently installed a set of Rennline DL's and am happy with them so far. No noises or binding. They are mounted instead to the steering knuckle, rather than the stock bracket hanging by the spring perch. This is a much more solid mounting position, and allows for the links to be shorter meaning less flex/deflection.

I believe the DL's offered by Rennline are Tarett DL's. Can you confirm?

Thanks, Steve

Tarett extended drop links are an excellent choice and provide the optimum drop link geometry.

No, they are Rennline's own. They are curved, not straight which I believe is to get them away from the axles.

Pretty cool looking caliper bracket, what type of calipers do you run?

I run front and rear 997.2GT3 PCCB calipers with 380/350 rotors. The brackets you are referring to are the OEM brackets (made by Brembo) that Porsche puts on the front upright of 997.2TTs with PCCB 380/350 brakes. These are obviously a direct bolt on to the 996TT cars also.

I replaced my worn DL with AP, they are adjustible although I wasn't looking for that, needed something quick price was reasonable but not sure of longitivity yet. If I had to do it again i'd go for the Tarret, they feel very well made.

dustent is infamous around these parts
Just out of curiosity, can you feel when your drop links fail? I'm still getting used to the feel of the car, but the front end feels a bit disconnected on uneven surfaces. Could it be drop links?

I actually didn't feel it in normal driving, but I never drove the car hard after it failed. I could hear a clunking every once in a while and knew something was wrong.

Due to this, I never pushed the car hard.

A clunking noise when making a turn, heard a pop first, thought I hit a pothole.

Mine just happened to fail on the street likely due to too much preload from the adjustable sway bars.

When mine failed I was hearing clunking and creaking at low speed. The plastic parts around the ball ends had broken allowing the ball to move more in the socket. Mine didn't come apart. I observed the wear when the wheels were off and I grabbed hold of the link and yanked it back and forth.

Can't say I could feel it driving in a staight line, but then I have my front shocks set up pretty firm. The alignment has a strong effect on what you're describing, I'd look to getting that checked out too. Higher front tire pressure exacerbates float, try dropping a couple of pounds, see if that helps.
