Thoughts on new 991 Turbo being PDK only?

Seems like if you want to still row through the gears you will have to by on the used market to get a manual! I saw this coming for years now!

No thanks, give me a standard. I know it is a faster car when driven hard but I like shifting. And the PDK has not proven it can take bigger power mods.

Well truthfully I'm ambivalent about this. On the one hand, I've been driving a stick since day one, about 30 years, and I absolutely love the process. At least, at low-to-moderate speeds. And I despise pure autos in performance cars (no offense to any Tippers -- it's just been my preference for so long that I can't change. )

But as long as I have a good sportscar with a traditional stick (and I do, a 2004 986S), I would also enjoy another one with a PDK. Especially if the PDK car were a big-power car, and the stick car was more of a finesse or momentum car.

I also heard the PDK is the week link in making big power! Not sure if anyone has tried to strengthen one up yet?

i dunno.. i've always considered myself a "purist" when this topic is broached, but.. having driven the 991s ( as compared to 997.t's with the older tip..i can only say.

the new turbo only available in pdk would be something i would gladly learn to live with. i should only have this problem. there is no way it is as "staid" as the 991 s *can* be.

A stock PDK system (now one generation old) handled a bolt on M97 9A1 DFI engine that trapped 135.

It definitely enables the insane acceleration numbers not just in the shifting, but the number of shifts due to aggressive gear ratios - 60mph well into 3rd gear. That's a lot of shifting in a little amount of time...

I like both.

It's a great option for a track car or if you use your car as a daily driver. None of those apply for me, so I still prefer a manual.

+1. It doesn't flow well for some reason. Looks like rear and front were designed by two different people.

Its better without you giving any shifting input at all, so just stick it in auto and its at its best. Thats horrible. And the new turbos look like fat caymans, too round looking.

Porsche has lost their way. Used to be leaders and now are just followers.

+1, I saw this coming with the GT3 being PDK only and the previous generation turbo's were mostly PDK, really disappointed that the GT3 didn't have a manual option. Just b/c every company is going to automatic doesn't mean you have to. I fell in love with the Porsche brand b/c it was different, and now they are just like everyone else.
