Esprit Vs 11 sec Camaro SS
Esprit Vs 11 sec Camaro SS
I went out to race a Camaro SS, with some work, according to the owner, cam and all bolt ons. He just recently ran an 11.90@118 in the 1/4. Nice guy, nice car. We ran twice i beat him both times, and my Esprit is boosting now less than stock. I cant wait to see how it runs at 14lbs, vs the 7lbs its at now. I also ran an 02 Z06, with pretty much the same outcome. Then i tried the Z06 from a 20mph roll in 1st gear and he beat me by 1 car length. I had to shift to 2nd immediately and the shift is not the fastest.

Allan, how far did you pull on him in the first race? It looks like 1 car perhaps? Hard to tell from the camera's angle. The 2nd race looks as if he missed a gear?

In the first race, i got the Camaro by less than 1 car, prob about 3/4 car. In the second race he didnt miss a gear, just had alot of wheelspin.

Nice, what a race on the first one.
Camaro shouldve let off on the second one though. If you spin that bad you'll never catch back up

i LOVE THE ESPRIT, I just dont know anything that old that still looks that good, that car was way ahead of its time 28 years ago.
Toio bad the transmission on them sucks, and if you break the tranny they are discountinied so you cant buy a new one, you have to rebuild it

it was a french made tranny... my synch rolls went out at 700 mile ....but they replaced it with a new one. granted that the espririt was a demo with 300 miles on it.. maybe they demoed it really hard???

It was not until 2000 that they actually got their sh*t together( I mean Lotus)... cause in 1999 they hired adn sent to the US an engineer to sample air( to write a program for the car).. why? cause previous models like mine had problems due to different air and gas.. at least thats what the lotus main REP told me when he showed up once from out of state. then, for a brief moment they flashed that improved program into my ecu. Our board member, brian heske- now in Cali working for a porsche dealership- worked at my dealership where i bought most of these cars... including the ferarri and the the lambo, Fox valley Motorcars outside of chicago. Well, he knows my situation cause he worked in service. In any event, it was a great handling car. not too many cars can beat a mid engine set up.

Looks like fun.
Can you list the basics of your car? Which year, mod's done, resultant improvements over stock, any prob's you encountered or one-off custom work you had to do, etc? Thanks.
What was the video/chase car?

I agree, i wouldnt buy an Esprit prior to 2000. They had problems with cylinder liners, and the brakes werent very good.

I did alot of street racing as well.. especially on highways... and even If I lacked HP.. I made up in handling.... and being in chicago.. the "midwest".. there were alot of American muscle cars out here.
