What happens when the wife says no to your new car?
pay off your student loan for 50k and use the extra 30k for a downpayment on the 996tt!! it's the same concept as keeping the student loan and paying the porsche cash. it just makes your wife happy, everybody wins!!

I doubt you'll rationalize w her well given her pregnancy and raging hormone. It won't get better after bc she'll be getting 4 hrs of sleep (and so will you).
Just face the fact that you'll never get a 996TT and be happy to curl up your tail between your legs
JK man! You may never convince her but you should try it w bribes like food/music/baby shopping to see if that helps. Get her dad to help with convincing her if possible.

it took deliberate planning for me.. after about a couple of years of switching cars, mods, and constant talk about the 911 Turbo during this time.. and promising this is my last car, she finally gave in.

my wife said no to an evo MR or an S4 avant
guess i gotta get an m3...life sucks
However, when the time comes and I can afford a TT, she'll have no qualms about letting me get it, that was part of the prenup

"When are you gonna drive your dream car, when you're 65?"
Although I bought my first porsche when I was 38, that was what my friend told me that made me realize to get what I want now befor it's too late.

My cousin just graduated from dental school and he is converting his loans to a fixed 1.75%. You can't beat that.
If you can buy the TT with Cash, your $50K Student Loan will get paid off in NO TIME. Plus, the interest rate on your student loan is probably low, so why not get the 911 Turbo now and enjoy your success?
This however is based SOLELY on how secure you feel your job is. If you could lose your job tommorow, I'd pay off the student loan first, and get the car later.

Dude...
Take the pair of hairy twins out of the drawer where your wife put them and slap them back on.
Do NOT.
(And I repeat for emphasis)
DO NOT
Let your wife dictate what is "responsible" or "sensible" to you. Do what you want. I have a good friend in a similar situation... what the wife thinks is sensible is the right thing to do. He has to beg for what he wants. He has to justify... request...cajole... beg.
It never ends... no matter what he wants... she just says no and he cowers down. Of course... she hides behind the words "responsible" and "sensible".
You live exactly ONCE.
As much as I'd like to believe in reincarnation... I'm not banking on it.
Figure that you have one shot at this life. Figure you are going to die an early death and all the "sensible" and "responsible" crap will produce nothing for you but a life of misery having someone else tell you what to do.
Tell her it is your money and you'll do what the hell you want to with it with the caveat being... take care of your shared responsibilities first. Pay for what you are responsible for... and do whatever the hell you want with YOUR disposible income.
Note: I am talking here about DISPOSIBLE income. Pay your bills. Make sure you are saving a reasonable amount for retirement....kids college, etc.
Whatever is left... do whatever the hell you want to with it.
Now... go straight to the dresser drawer... grab the hairy twins, slap them on... and go have a chat with the wife.
Joe
