Future of the TT??

I recently read an article touting the performance of the new Z06, and a monster time being layed down at the Nurburgrind. As a die hard 911 man, I can't help but wonder if Porsche is giving up against a field they have dominated for so many decades. It seems that they are comfortable with rediculously modest advances over the past several years in the "streetable" performance arena, and prefer to sell SUV's. What Up???

Doubt it, we'll have to wait for the 997TT, when the 996TT came out it was a beast on the ring. 5 years later you can't expect anything less then it no longer being top dog. That said, the Z06 is gonna be no joke if everything holds true.

What makes you think that they have been rediculously modest? Just cause they don't hold top time anymore? Prefer to sell SUV's? That's a joke right?

The story is that they got into the lucrative SUV market to finance the next generation of technology and engineering so the sports cars & race cars can stay ahead of the curve.

Stu,

With Porsche returning to LMP, I doubt they're walking away from the performance market. I think they've strayed a little, but I think they'll wake up with the 997 TT.

that's what happens when there was no competition. now that the competition is biting at their heels, they'll have to work harder and run faster.

Exactly what I was going to say, in 2001 they had minimal competition the 996TT was almost considerd a super car. Now days there is so much competition, that I seriously doubt that the 997TT will be on top.

I am very hopeful that the 997TT comes out swinging. We shouldn't have to mod these things so sharply in an effort to compete with a stock Chevrolet.

I think what he's saying is that the 1996 993TT came with 408HP and the 2004 996TT comes with 410HP. That's an increase in output of less than 1/4 HP/yr for the last 9 years. I support the "modest increase" comment. I hope. but don't think the 997TT is going to significantly make up for lost time in the HP advancement department.

The 997TT is rumored to have 490hp. I've seen video of a 2001 996TT beating the 405hp Z06 in the 1/4 mile. I've also seen video of a 2001 996TT beating a 360 Modena in the 1/4. I've got to believe a 997TT will keep up with the 500hp or 505hp Z06 as well as the extremely expensive (selling for 80+K over list) 480hp F430.

Also don't discount the 996 GT2 with 477 hp!!!

In the September issue of Motortrend on pg 24 they claim the 997TT will top 500hp.
Also the PDK transmission will be an option. We'll have to wait and see.

Where are you getting these hp #'s from ? The stock Z06 had 405 hp. The stock 996 GT3 has 375 hp.
