iPad looks cool but I'm trying to wrap my head around how you would actually use it in our cars. All I can come up with is that the iPad is a music source for your factory radio. Any other functions?
You could install a wireless router in the car to create your own network. From there you could install some home automation modules from RTI like their relay contact closure module. You could turn on/off things in your car via the RTI control app on the iPad. Essentially, you could eliminate every basic switch in the car: windows, trunk, hood, traction control, wing etc. For the full effect you would need to rebuild interior panels to delete the switches. the end result would be a super clean interior, only a steering wheel and an ipad...no other switches or buttons. It's a huge project but it can be done. We did this in my brothers motor coach.

, you name it....it is fully connected to the internet. It also functions as a wireless hotspot for a laptop.AT&T has shared data plans where 5 of us share 15gb per month...and its only $10/month extra to add an iPad which will share data out of the 15gb per month... 5 of us barely use 7-8gb per month, so this is an excellent option for me.
Thanks for all the comments people
, also search and you will find an ipad mini install diy!
iPad mini looks awesome and very functional. you should purchase a bluetooth obd2 dongle that way you can read CELs, and see actual values such as boost and air fuel. some programs even have gauge like front end interfaces. link to the diy? curious how it is secured in there.
