Tip owners, is this normal?
Tip owners, is this normal?
Hey guys,
When I got WOT From a dead stop, the 996 feels like it bogs for the first couple of feet and then screams to redline. This happens in Manual or D and with PSM off. I know it's a six and not alot of torque before the Turbo kicks but it seem like the TC should flash a little higher to help the 996 get off the line faster.
My last SUV can cut a 1.7 60ft on a stock converter.
input welcome please

yes...did the 2nd gear WOT and it did the quick shift to 1st which I did not really like.
I tried the 1st gear WOT and coming out of the hole is very slow for a few feet and then it screams to redline.
thanks
It's normal, until the turbos spool up it's a bit of a dog. Once you hit 2.5k rpm it'll take off though. Starting from second in M will make it feel like a corolla.
If you want to really launch it you need to stomp on the brakes, but i'm too chicken to do it myself.
FWIW, I think that in one of the reviews I've read (MotorTrend?) they said that using that method makes it go 1.5s quicker from 0-60.

Totally normal. Try brake boosting from a dig. Foot on the brake, slight throttle until car starts to move. Then launch. Another way to launch harder is to have your TC stall raised to 3000rpm. The best I could ever get out of my tip was a 1.7 60'.

I've done the braking thing with modest change. It does not want to stay put beyond 2200 - 2300 rpm. Does raising the stall speed in the TC create any reliability or other problems?
I'd love to do that, as my 1/4 mile times are horrible for the 60' times.
Just scared to play with that. Do tell!
Hold the brake , half throttle ,,,, more brake full throttle - go. The front tires spin just a little. You go then bog a little then really go. That seams to be the best. Did 11.6 s the other day with just a tune .

thanks for all the input!
Increasing my stall hurt my 60-130 times. It was a trade off for better launch times.
