Questions about working on PSS-9's
Hey guys, decided that I want to stiffen my PSS-9's up a bit, and have never worked with coilovers before. I know on the PSS-9s there are 9 different setting. I was told that mine are 6F and 5R right now (did this till I got used to the coilovers). I am looking to drop down to like 4F 3R, but don't really know how to do this...
Can I do this without a lift or jack??
The fronts if I turn the wheels all the way I can get to the fronts and take off the cap....I see 1,2,4,6,8,9 on the dial. How do I tell what setting I am on??
I cannot find a similar cap or adjustment in the back...how is this done??
Like I said can I do this without a jack??
Thanks,
Evan

Was just told by someone that the adjustment for the back is on top of the shock...how the hell do I get to it....Was also told there is a mark, to show what setting I am on, but can't find that either...crap, wish I had a lift

I had PSS9s put on recently on my TT by PES. The adjustment for the rear is inside the car on top of the shock tower. If you have the Bose rear bass box in your car, then you'll have to pull that to look underneath. The front requires some trickery, possibly with a mirror or something that'll let you see what the setting is now and where you want to turn it to.
Evan,
The rear adjustment is on the top of the strut and the front is on the bottom. To adjust the rear, you need to remove the Bose subwoofer box. I recall you had a really hard ime with this in the past. It shouldn't be that difficult. First remove the horn shaped vent covers that say Bose on each side with a flat blade screwdriver. Next remove the bolts that holds the sub box in place. There is one behind each vent trm pice you just removed. THe sub box should slide forward and out. You may have to peel back the carpeting over the tops of the struts to see the **** but they are there. Be careful that you don't turn the **** too much. The settings are very precise.
THe fronts can be accessed from under the car. You may be able to access them one at a time by turning the wheels to lock and going in from behind the wheel. THere should be a blue rubber cover on the bottom of the strut. Pull off the cover to expose the ****.
Remember, the lower the number the stiffer the shock setting. I have mine at 3 front and 2 rear but i am going to try something softer for review.
Good luck.

Thanks Ken,
Had a feeling that POS box had to come out
I am unable to see a mark on the front ones, but will look again...
Does 4F 3R sound good?? 5F 6R seens too sluggish for me, but I don't wanna ride like I don't even have shocks

Evan,
It is a matter of personal taste and usage. I personally prefer a firmer ride but i am still experimenting with the settings. If the shock setting is too stiff, the tire may not necessarily follow the ground undulations as well (stutter bumps as an example). I am trying different settings to see what is a good compromise for me. In general though, I think it is probably a good idea to keep the rears slightly stiffer than the fronts to somewhat counteract the inherent understeer in the car.
