Reviving this thread. I'm going to keep the Biarritz 996TT and build it and these are first. Looking for the best price on RSS, Wevo or Torque Solutions.

is it true that solid mounts cause virtual knock?

I installed the TS motor and trans mounts back in April, I absolutely love them. It totally transforms the car (no surprise considering that my OEM mounts were shot upon removal).

Considering the age of a lot of these cars, it is something I highly suggest everyone looking into...even if you are just swapping for new OEM parts.

I have only heard of that happening in a tested scenario on a Boxster. Everything else seems to be hearsay.

I have read they add minimal NVH, if any more, than the the semi solid mount and went for a ride in a local car 996 Turbo with solids and found the NVH to be acceptable level and the owner reported no additional knock or timing changes in his logs.

A benefit of solids that I was told, is they lower the engine in the chassis a small amount compared to others, thereby lowering the center of gravity.

I think that is the route I am going to go, I'll let you know what I find out.

I replaced the old 996tt tranny mount with a 997tt mount, and found it was a very nice improvement over the 996tt which I highly recommend. The upgrade provides smoother shifting for sure, and a more stable drive line that improves handling. With only a floor jack and jack stands, that job took about 3 hours but I was taking my time with frequent breaks for a tired old back.

A week later I replaced the hydraulic engine mounts with RSS semi-solid mounts, and that was a very noticeable improvement in driveline stability. That job was certainly a little easier than the tranny mount, and took about 2 hours start to finish.

While my prior opinion about the car's handling was that it was a little vague and unpredictable, I feel that changing the mounts has made the handling much more precise, and I was fairly pleased with the car's handling on the Summit Point main course last weekend.

Although it was raining all weekend and there were many off track adventures with even a few instructors losing control a few times, I found the car's handling to be pretty good in the sloppy conditions.
