Update: I installed the GT2 tank but it does not fit! The opening for the fuel pump is about 12" behind the opening in the body of the 996tt body. Take a look at the pics below. I thought the front bulkhead was the same between the GT2 and the 996tt?

 

Hey Don - I think you will find it fits. On the Gt2 you get to the fuel opening under the battery. The cover there can be removed and you see the opening directly below. My guess is that you will have to move the fuel lines and wires, but your moving them back so you should not have to much of a problem. Taboopc (commented on this thread) and I just did a fuel pump change on his gt2 and I was shocked at the difference. Also, your going to have to change the pickup and sender as the gt2 was different as well.

no - the filler door is in the same place. Also the pipe from the filler connects to the same location on both tanks. Its just where the fuel pump goes in. On the turbo its under the black plastic cover in the front truck compartment. on the gt2, its under the battery.

 

Ahh ok I will put it in one more time and see how it lines up. From what I remember the opening was right between the 996tt body openings (battery and fuel pump access hole). Ill give it another shot! Thanks!

Thanks - i'm pretty sure that was about 5miles before I blew a coolant line........ but, atleast now I have the time to get my bumper finished off and the original exhaust cutouts filled in.

 

Subscribed- I want to see if you get the tank in successfully. As LQQk said, the whole basket setup of the gt2 is different. Maybe go back to the wrecked car, and take the whole basket configuration?

 

Success! I went back for round II and I moved it back a bit and it lines up great with the opening under the battery! I was just about to order a turbo tank!

Now I just need to find all the fuel lines, basket, sender from a GT2.

No worries. After doing Taboopc's pump I can tell you the basket and pump are different than the turbo. No long pickups which is nice. Looking at the layout I'd guess the sender unit is different as this is spring loaded to hold the basket. If pick up both.

If you have the turbo lines, you should be able to shorten them, but considering your engine is built I'd just run #6 or 8 lines. It was pretty simple to route on the gt2. We also did an walbro e85 pump which is working perfect. Let me know if you want tips on that.

did you also have to get new lower coolant lines because my gt2 tank did not fit between the oem 996tt hard coolant lines at the bottom.

 

since needing a new fueling assembly, would be a good time to do a 997 fuel pump upgrade?

Im not sure yet. I still need to install all of the coolant lines. Do you know which one I need the GT2 version of? Any pics by chance? The front half of my car is a bare shell right now.

 

I already did the dual 044 pump setup before. I made a custom bracket to hold the 2 pumps where the factory basket goes. I think I will go to a single 450lph pump in factory basket though now. I didnt really like the noise of the 044's and the heat build up was horrible since the factory cooler is bypassed when going with 8AN line. I think the 450lph should be plenty for the A28s I have switched to (use to have A3076s).
