Huh ? Why would BMW want to design a car that looks like a stetched Porsche 911 ?

nice executive cruiser. hardly a sports car though by Porsche standards, imo...

It looks like it has the same type of proportions as the 6 series, but sleeker and more appealing. Maybe im the only one that sees it, dont kill me for it... jeez.

That car looks great. I will definitely get one of those if it looks similar to those pics.

Just not during the first two model years.

What kind of name is Panamera though? Porsche has just not been doing well with naming lately.

Panamera is supposed to be a contraction of "Pan Americana", the race (back when men were men by the way) over public roads in South America that Porsche won a few times...or I think it was more than once. This was during the 550 era. If you read about those adventures it is quite a difference from todays racing.

Garey,

I remember the races. I believe it was called the Carrera Panamericana. Isn't that where the name came from for the 911 Carrera?

Having said that, I still do not think Panamera is a smart name for their sedan.

Here's a neat article on the race:
Carrera Panamericana Race anniversary

Another on the specific 550 involvement and the emergence of the "Carrera" moniker:
