New Owner and Need Exhaust Help (San Diego)

I'm incredibly excited to finally join the P-car fold! Thanks to this incredible resource here, I learned a ton in finding my first 996TT. Brought her home from a long 450 mile trip back yesterday:

Name: 996TT.jpg

Now to get her registered in CA, so first thing up is smog. She current has a fabspeed exhaust which is a non-starter for smog. I need to find a stock 996TT exhaust. Anyone in socal have one for sale or can point me to one? Or does anyone have one lying around that they could lend me (I'd pay for the privilege)

I'm looking forward to contributing on these forums. I had a 400hp IS300 which was fully swapped to a toyota supra driveline by myself. I use to tune turbo cars for the Lexus community, so I'm excited to step into a new community and learn more.

Congrats on the the Turbo, looks really nice! I have a stock exhaust off my 2002 sitting in my garage not sure what it would cost to ship but it is only 2 days ground from SLC to you.

Check this out, best sound I've heard for the turbo.

The car has a nice Fabspeed Maxflo setup on it already which sounds great. Just that it won't pass visual inspection, hence the need for a stock unit.

TeCKis300-
The visual isn't what they look for, it's the sniffer test. If your Fabspeed has cats, you may be fine. Also be sure they know it's awd, so no dyno run is needed.

It's got the 200 cell fabspeed cats. I've read a little bit on here, and it seems like it may pass the sniffer just fine so long as the techs don't go poking their head underneath? Any thoughts?

If I can't find a stock unit shortly, I might just brave it figuring most techs won't know what their looking at with a Porsche.

Thanks for the input uschoice.

One other thing is I have no clue if the cars been flashed, which may potentially also complicate smog?

I've got a generic OBD-II reader. What can I look for from the readout that may give me a clue? Irrelevant of tune, I figure I should be able to read the readiness codes just fine, which should be the only thing they're looking for.

Correct. The smog checks are done by independent garages, not state inspectors. If it gets good readings during the sniff test, you're good to go.
Just be sure there aren't any open codes, since here in CA, you can only have one not ready code. Ask the garage to scan your car before they plug you in to Sacramento, to be safe. That's what I did, and found I had two not ready codes. Had them fixed, and then passed smog just fine.

I bet you will be fine. Mine passes with zero issues. Most places give you a free retest. Take it and see what happens.

Also, as you mentioned, most guys don't know what they are looking at. The first time I took mine the guy opened the trunk looking for the engine.

Congrats

Congrats on the TT and hope you get to keep the Fabspeed system installed with no changes. Did you confirm exactly what system you have installed as far as which version and if you have a full system. Regarding the ECU tune Im not sure if you have driven other 996TT cars that were not tuned but it is certainly an upgrade that you can feel right away with the power and tq gains. Please let me know if you have any thoughts or questions that I will be happy to help you with.

So the previous owner bought the car modded, and he wasn't able to tell me much about specifics. The car is extremely clean and tastefully modded with very choice parts. I've driven 2 other 996TT's in my search, but not extensively so it would be hard for me to say exactly, but she does feel quite a bit healthier than 420hp.

Looks to be a full Fabspeed Gen 3 exhaust with cats:

I put my OBD-II reader up to it and looks like the catalyst status is incomplete?

uschoice...are you suggesting that this one open code will be fine? I do think this suggests she is flashed no?

I'm in Laguna Hills, I have a guy out in Anaheim that

smogs my car. I have Speedtech X Flow, I install the 200 cell cats, and take it in. No issues.

He typically asks if the car is all original .. He tries to look underneath, car is so low, he can't see much. Like others have said, no dyno test, he basically does a visual then does the sniffer tests, and it passes with flying colors.

He only does a couple of Porsche's a year, so he is not that familiar with the car, which helps.

I do NOT change anything with my tune, which BTW has the rear O2 sensors turned OFF.
