Two teen-agers killed in Ferrari crash in Anaheim Hills

City News Service

ANAHEIM - Two people believed to be 19-year-old men died when the 2004 Ferrari they were in crashed in Anaheim Hills and burst into flames early today, police said.

Excessive speed appeared to be the cause of the crash on Nohl Ranch Road at Meats Avenue, reported to authorities at 2:10 a.m., said Anaheim police Sgt. Rick Martinez.

The car was being driven west on Nohl Ranch Road when it struck a curb, went into the opposing lane of traffic, then hit a tree. The vehicle then caught fire and the victims were burned beyond recognition, Martinez said.

Authorities are awaiting the results of an autopsy before confirming the names of the victims, he said.

The preliminary investigation indicated one of the victims lived a quarter- mile from the crash site and that the crash occurred shortly after that person had left the residence.

The passenger killed in the crash was believed to be a Placentia resident, he said.

Fast cars and really young people are always a deadly combo.

It was not who I thought it was. The owner of the car I was thinking of had an '03 360 Modena.

Still, it is tragic ... especially for someone so young. It'll be interesting to see the details unfold to find out exactly what happened.

Events like this really make you question how worthwhile car 'enthusiasm,' as a hobby, is.

My parents live about 2 miles from that intersection. I can almost bet you that kid lived in Villa Park or Peralta Hills. I grew up there and one of my best friends crashed his mom's 928S back in 1986 doing a little joyriding. Another acquaintance of mine crashed his dad's 328GTSi also. Dumb kids with wealthy parents are not a safe combo... My condolences to the families.

With approximately 300,000 car fires a year (source epa.gov http://es.epa.gov/ncer/events/news/2003/08_25_03a.html)

anyone have an automatic fire supression system?

Unhappy

Nope, but a halotron extinguisher is about to be installed under the passenger seat and a sodium bicarb extinguisher is in the trunk.

My wife was in a horrid accident about 5 years ago and was pinned in her Cherokee for about three hours. The engine was leaking gas, and a paramedic risked his life to sit with my wife (wrapped in a fire blanket) until they could cut the roof and extract her foot from the mangled pedals.

So sad, so young, and probably (a big assumption) so inexperienced.

I think the Fuel Tanks should be built stronger so that there is a less likely chance of puncture.

To hear something like this happen is truly sad.

you can only make them so strong, tanks are pretty strong these days, but anything and everything can and will break w/ enough impact
