I made the mistake of reading that "going to 6.5" is an easy swap". That's the biggest crock of **** ever. I've done stereo builds in my last 4 cars, and this was by far the biggest pain to mount 6.5" in the door pods. I removed the pods entirely and just sealed off the hole. But due to the contours and bends it was not an easy process.

Most any 5.25" should fit in the door though.

Lots of options out there. I've used JL Audio C3 and C5 in 5 1/4 " in the door with good success. Focal, Hertz, Hybrid Audio are also considerations albeit pricey.

Cool

One more question.... Got all the speaker connections sorted out thanks to all your help. Now for the really stupid ones :-).

There three wires that don't yet have a home. A thin red/black; a thick red/black; and an orange one. On the head unit I have only Battery and Ignition access spots???

There is a Blue/White that I assume connects to the blue/white Power Cont.?

There is a Blue/Purple that has a tag "relay" hanging there too.

Any and all help is GREATLY appreciated!!

Got it all connected and it works. Still have to play a little with it but it 'seems' that following the schematics and running a common ground from the HU with all four channels (negative) leads to the single front left negtive lead to the amp somehow is blocking out the balance control between the speakers. I get all four channels playing but moving the fader left/right doesn't seem to be effective. Had thought about running each set of speakers wires in matching +/- sets going into the amp, but, the schematics show binding them in common.

I used Infinity Kappa 52.9. They fit quite easily. They are 5 1/4 though not 6".

slider,
Do you happen to know the color code for the stock amplifier harness? I want to replace my amplifier but I want to use the oem harness and make plugs for power, ground and remote turn on. Im just not sure which of the plugs on the oem wire harness I would need to attach from oem to my amp. Thanks

Dont cut into the factory harness but use adapter pigtails. What year is your car?

Here is one for a 2002

I have a 2001 I dont believe i have a bose or MOST. I have a becker head unit and the jenhert package with the dual 6.5 speakers in the door. My car also has the cd changer which I was going to remove.

I dont want to cut any wire that are oem. I have found the correct plugs that go into the oem wire harness. They are 2.5mm banana plugs.

Can I use the plugs that power the oem amp (located on the opposite end of the speaker plug portion) to power the aftermarket amp? Also I need to know where to gain access to the remote turn on. I would assume that is on one of the plugs to the oem amplifier as I believe there are two. The oem amplifier is under the frunk carpet so I can only see the top of it next to the cd changer.

Thanks for any help.
