Need help deciding between 02 cab vs. 01 TT

I’ve been thinking about what car to get for some time now and I’ve narrowed it down to two. I’ll be in the market early next year. I know it’s far away but work is slow today so my mind is wandering. The car will be my weekend car and my budget is maxed at around 65k. The choices are,

2002 C2 cab.
I’ve seen them for about 60k, this is for one with <20k miles, loaded and certified. I like the refreshed look of the 02 and feel more comfortable getting one that is certified since I’ve heard many issues about RMS, etc. Living in So Cal, the idea of having a cab is very enticing. I'm worried about not being satisfied with the power. This car is more within my budget.

2001 TT
I’ve seen them for 70k not certified with 30k-40k miles. When I’m actually ready to buy in about 6-8 months and with the release of the 997TT I suspect the price will drop a bit more into my budget. I love the look and power, and I feel more confident about not getting the warranty but understand that even though the engine is strong it’s not bulletproof. Ever since I was a little kid, the turbo always held a place in my heart. My budget is being pushed.

So I guess it comes down to a fresh low mileage cab versus an older slightly beat-up turbo. I’m still young so there will be time to get a taste of many different types of cars but where do I start? I know it comes down to personal opinion but what would you guys do?

Thanks much,

Scott

I'm thinking early 996 Turbo prices may strengthen, or at least stabilize, due to increased hype of the "New and Improved Porsche Turbo" (costing upwards of $140k+). People may start to see the true value of the 996 and be willing to cough up $70k+

Maybe I should also post in the 996 forum because of the bias in this one

I would do an 02 TT over my 04 TT cabriolet. I love Porsche drop tops, but the TT coupes are the best to drive by far.

I had that same choice and drove both side by side. The TT was just too amazing. I also wanted awd for the occasional snow and rain that can happen on a moments notice.

Side note: The RMS (rear main seal) potential for failure on the normally aspirated 996 worried me too.

TT bias or not, they are two different cars. A turbo level porsche and a carrera are very different, you get what you pay for and more with the Turbo. Everytime I think about how cool the Turbo still is im amazed at its staying power. I can't even imagin what it was like in 2001 when this car came onto the scene.

I'm an NA guy, and I'll tell you the same thing. Get the TT. You'll miss the extra 100hp. My only regret in buying my car is that if I'd held out a few more months, I'd have been able to get a used TT for what I paid for the C4S

What PMac said - a C2 Cab owner.

A TT was never within my price range so never considered it. However, the C2 has not disappointed me in power though.
