FYI - I sold my 01 TT coupe w/20k miles on it with every service record since new, a few minor mods like PSS9s, and no accident/paint/flood damage, with a perfect PPI from RAC in Dallas, for $45k. For the extra 6k over this car, it was a world away as far as condition.

Buying a Porsche should be an enjoyable experience, not something that makes you hate life because stuff goes wrong. Stack the deck in your favor by waiting on a better car.

Quote: dont the 2001s have the 2nd gear pop out issues though?
as a owner of a clean car, the last thing I'd worry about is 2nd gear pop out.

that cars a money pit being past on to you!!. take your time and you'll find one for 40k with all the little shi- fixed that cost thousands of $$$$

Don't be impulsive... Thats a fair deal with no stories, a 20k as it sits!

...and there it is...

On any given day, you can walk into their shop...and see a car with it's complete interior sitting on the floor, being air dried and shop vac'd out...run, don't walk, away....

I saw and drove the car in person. Here are my impressions:

The exterior looks very clean with a couple dime size touched-up paint at the lower rear bumper. The paint is in excellent condition.

The interior is also clean but the carbon fiber seat backs weren't done nicely and are very "rough" around the edges. Everything else is in good shape.

It does have a Fabspeed exhaust but that is the ONLY performance upgrade the dealer can verify. I was told that it "might" have had an ECU tune but not sure by whom.

There is a minor oil leak on the passenger side near the turbo. I couldn't get a close look at it to know exactly where it was coming from.

Wheels and tires are in good shape. Brakes are in good shape.

There is no warning light on and all electronics were working.

The car drives/shifts fine but definitely felt "stock".

The dealer pust a price tag of $12k on the gt2 nose and $8k on the rear wing. I am sure they put $5k between the exhaust and the carbon fiber seat backs and that's how they arrive at $25k.

To give them credit, the dealer told me that the car was flooded back in 06 and was sold by the same dealership to some one in WA. That owner registered the car without reporting it being flooded and was given a clean title. It was then sold back to the current dealer who sold the car to someone in RI. You guys know what happened from there.

The car does look great but the extremely "low" mileage in RI for such a long period of time really bothered me.

I agree with everyone that you should shop around for one with a clean history. Good luck!

ok so yes this looks like clear proof that this car will be a problem because our stories differ from what the dealer has told either one of us.

At least the way i understood it, the car was flooded at its dealership when new...

either way, i'm pulling the hold back today guys

thank you so much for all your help

your advice has been invaluable, and you guys saved me from possibly getting into a mess!!

thanks a million guys

As an RX-7 owner, you must be used to having a car that never runs, so this ride might be perfect for you :P

I almost bought a car from unlimited in CT also.
They had an 04 loaded tt black on black this summer, pics looked great.
Again it was a flood car but he said it was fresh water and only the carpets.
My uncle used to work for the Porsche,VW, audi in manhattan and he told me to walk away for two reasons.
first corrossion is something that will develop overtime, the car will seem fine now maybe, but years later you can be hunting electical problems forever. Unless you are willing to change the entire harness he said leave it alone.
second, the motors sit so low on these cars that if water got a few inches inside, it would have put the motor in water also.

I still really wanted to take the chance, the sales guy claimed the only issue was with the computer that controlled the rear spoiler but they would fix it, I tried to get him to lower it under 40, but they would not budge on price so I walked away.

Regarding the last 01 you posted, I would offer them no more than 40k for it, you will be suprised how much you can get off the price.
I had almost 6k taken off the car I eventually bought.

I was looking at that car as well. Knowing that it has water damage would have made me walk away. I was curious about the seats as well.
I did purchase an '02 TT with 20,000 miles with upgrades, flash, exhaust, pss-10, SSK Seal Grey over Black for $52,000. The car was one owner with all service records. I bought it from a dealer who is a Porsche enthusiast and race driver. The car is mint! For me the extra $$$$ was well worth the piece of mind.
