Hey guys,

So a little background first since i'll hopefully be a new member to the community. If all goes as planned, that is! haha

I currently own a heavily modified RX7 FD3S, you guys can check out the build thread through the link in my signature.

I have always had a bit of an obsession with turbocharged Porshces, and hopefully i'll be able to pick up my first one now.

The car in question:
I just put this car on hold at Unlimited Imports in Wallingford, CT. Been dealing with a representative named Rick, and he's been awesome through the whole process. Of course, as i've seen everyone here recommend, the car will get a PPI done at Hoffman Porsche of Hartford, CT before a purchase is made.

-Silver
-24k miles
-GT2 front end
-GT2 top wing add on
-Alcantara Sports Seats
-Fabspeed Exhaust

The car has been with 2 owner, the first of which, according to the dealer, invested about $25k into the car in goodies that were installed at Rosewood Porsche in California. (Rick is currently sourcing the parts list of the modifications for me.)

what i'm looking for is if anyone in the community has ever seen this car before, or knows anymore details about it before i purchase if the PPI checks out.

Some more info right off their website:

As a used car dealership, we do not buy or sell collision vehicles; we specialize in buying and selling vehicles paid off in insurance claims due to water related incidents or recovered theft with little to no damage. Our vehicles are the opposite extreme of what most consumers have seen in the media. We buy vehicles that are in extremely above average running and driving condition in order for us to provide the best quality for our customers, as well to keep our reputation as a worldwide company.

very appropriate that a member with the screen name 'sinking' posts info on water damaged cars lol.

I would talk to the guy doing the ppi and make him aware of the fact its very likely been underwater, or been in a collision, personally i would steer well clear of a flood damaged car.

At 39k, doesn't that seem like a pretty low price tag for that car? It's beautiful.

Not to worry guys

I've done extensive research into the car's history. The car was batched together in an insurance claim as salvages for a few cars that were flooded at the original dealer. When this car was bought at the insurance auction it went to California and was entirely gone over by Rosewood Porsche and re-certified as a clean titled car and it does have a clean title now.
The only things that were changed due to flood damage by Rosewood Porsche was the carpet and the seats because the leather got messed up a bit around the bottom edges. Thats when the new owner decided to dump some money in the car since it was being worked on anyway and did the performance upgrades and the body work.

Then the car went to its second owner in Rhode Island, from Imports Unlimited as well, where it was a prized possession for 4 years or so and pretty much a garage queen...it did about 3k miles in those 4 years of ownership. Now that owner has decided he'd rather have the room in his garage since he never drives the car and its been bought back by Imports Unlimited.

I'm getting the car for a steal because thats the business Imports Unlimited is in. This car is a rather odd situation for them because it is a clean title car, but its priced as one that is salvaged since they have to disclose it.

Resale value doesnt bother me too much, which i'm sure the at-one-point-salvged title would hurt, because the next owner of the car will be over seas in south america...my brother in law haha

or it only did 3k because it has lingering electrical and other issues and it spent a ton of time at the shop trying to get them fixed

just trying to play devils advocate

The second owner story of how it was bought back by the company sounds like a load of bull and more so it had issues and that's why it sat. Don't believe anything the dealers tell you. They are trying to sell you a car to make money, this isn't an enthusiast selling you a car that would tell you any issues it's had in the past. Looks really nice and FYI there is not 25k in upgrades in that car. If everything pans out though it's tastefully modded.

Exactly , something very fishy about this.. The whole story 4 years 3k miles lol really?
Personally I would never buy a car from a dealership like that .

Oh and as mentioned , the mods are NOWHERE near 25k as they list..

Save a little now, pay a lot more later. Lots of cars for sale without the stories - I'd recommend searching for a cleaner opportunity. You have no idea what the extent of the damage was, even if everyone says it was minor. I'd run, run away.

Thank you guys so much for chiming in with advice, I like this community already!!

The research I did was not through this dealership, it was done mostly on my own.

I've also thought this as a solutiom to address the possibility that the car is a headache even if it clears PPI. They would give me a transit registration thats valid for one month that gives me some time in the seat of the car. And make sure it's all good. .. thoughts?

stay away from flooded porsches or any flooded cars. salt water and harnesses dont mix. if carpet got wet means all the modules under the passenger seat got wet. if it was salt water this car will be a nightmare.

Upgrades to the motor... hydrolocked in the flood and needed to be completely rebuilt?

It looks nice, very similar to mine in fact, but I would probably pass on this one, unless you were able to get an extremely good deal, with about 10k saved for any repairs that might pop up.
