996tt Reliability for years to come

Sounds wonderful. But I bet you a dollar-fifty that you don't even have half of the options on that option sheet!
#32
Who knows, Porsche options can get pretty ridiculous. All I know is this car has everything I wanted and then some
#33
though i do miss warm seats this time of year all kiddin aside. my 02 had all that alum x71 matched stuff and i dug it. this ones just faster lol
the op probably found a nice one. you know what they say pics or it didnt....
#34
Nice and welcome to the family. Share some pics of the new beast when she arrive home!

these cars kinda suck. there are many issues with the way the car and its parts were engineered that WILL become an issue. a time bomb really.
dont kid yourself...
if you are stock, then you can, but enjoy getting passed by 2014 minivans!

I'd probably buy a sub-4 second to 60 minivan. I'm sure lots of modded TTs do get passed by vans - seeing as they are often broken down on the side of the road.

No, my point is that these cars MUST be modded to be fast by 2013 standards.
420hp is not really that much anymore.
However, once modded - they are expensive toys. I'm not complaining, still cheap compared to a lambo or ferrari, but still pretty expensive. I'm just sharing the truth with those interested in getting into the game.
I used to recite the official party line of how "bulletproof" the platform is - until I replaced OEM parts that failed TWICE
clutch accumulator/slave
radiators
hydraulic spoiler lifter
water pump
coolant lines
boost hoses
engine
lols
maybe i'm unlucky, maybe not.
anything else??

Motortrend clocked a stock 2001 996TT 3.9 sec. 0-60 , 11.9 @ 116 mph 1/4 and 190 mph top speed.
Just how fast are the minivans in California?
Mild upgrades e.g tune and exhaust, and 60 mph is just a tad over 3 mississippi's and the 1/4 drop to
mid 11s. And at this level reliability is unaffected.
The 996 turbo is not a 996. The turbo has the Metzger engine. It's a race car engine and very robust.
There are plenty of 996TT running around with 200,000+ miles and no major engine work. Albeit
repairs can be frequent and expensive
Sure, 420 horses aint all that these days but let's compare apples to apples. If you want a pony car
or a Vette, there are plenty to be had. Any of these cars will probably be cheaper to maintain and you
can't throw a rock without hitting a Chevy or Ford mechanic. Horsepower and performance will be in
the same neighborhood as a 911TT and you can purchase a much newer example of a Ford or Chevy
for the same money.
This line of reasoning leads us to this: Why don't we all drive a Prius and sleep with average women.
Why would anybody, logically, sleep with a Russian model with a personality disorder and drive
an unreliable and expensive sports car?

they are both also very reliable. i always had a taste for the exotic
i think you should write for motor trend.

i currently own a modded 96t and rent a russian model but i get very little sleep and still couldn't agree more. they're both a lot of fun to drive i'm sure i'm at 3 seconds to 60 ( in the car! ) and i really shouldn;t go any faster
