Depreciation: The ultimate bottom??
I don't think so. The 'purists' will never like the 996. This will keep the 993 more desirable. The values if 996's will level off (I think they already have), but I don't see them going higher.
I'm sure they will come up considerably in value but it will take time. In the future a clean 996tt especially stock will be hard to find because they are mostly deemed disposable at this point lol.
Just put the winter tires on for another season. I know this sounds funny but I am having a hard time even considering parting ways as the true cost of ownership of a stock TT is very reasonable compared to other cars:
Bought at 45K/ driven 4.5 years/ Depreciation <5K per year.
Compare that to a 370Z: Depreciation
Year 1 $12,657
Year 2 $2,953
Year 3 $2,805
Year 4 $2,288
Year 5 $2,243
$22,946

I think 996s will track more closely with 964s. Everybody hated 964s till literally 24 months ago. Then they started rising. The "more desirable" 993, which had never sunk very far, began to rise pulling the "essentially very similar but a little less power and an unattractive feature (bumper covers)" 964 up with it. Want a 993? Will cost you, say, $45k. Want the same condition 964? Two years ago it would cost you 25k, but now people have figured that out and started to show the love to 964s.
996 will always have the same relationship with 997 that 964 has with 993. So when 997s hit bottom in a few years, then start to rise, suddenly people will look at the 996 in a new light. "Last of the truly mechanical cars," and with the TT "last of the Mezger M64 Engined cars" will be what is trotted out. The "unattractive" headlights will be seen in an historical light, rather than in a "no longer looks like the latest and greatest Porsche" light. And all prices will rise, most particularly 996 GT3, GT2, and Turbo. They will stay beneath the equivalent models in the 997 lineup, but I think 997 GT2, GT3, and 997.1 Turbo will rise sharply within about 6 years. Sure, everything about 991 is better, but then everything about 996 was better than 993; it's the fact that the 997 will be the last link to the old, mechanical, still drive it yourself Porsches, and particularly as concerns the 6 speed manuals in the HiPo cars.
There now, you read it here first!
