Depreciation: The ultimate bottom??
Depreciation: The ultimate bottom??
Was considering a trade for my 996TT X50 which has been my daily driver for the past 4.5 years. Due to kids growing up and other pursuits, thought it would be a good time to look. KBB says 30-32K for private party sale and the dealer offered me 23-24K (Its in fair condition).
The question I have: If I have a running 996TT regardless of the shape of the car, what is going to be the final low number that we are looking at as owners??

Invest <$1,000 and have it fully detailed, change out all of the fluids, get plenty of pictures and then create a very thorough FS post here on the forum. There are plenty of guys looking for a solid 996TT (myself included).
Great feedback and understand the detailing. My question may be a little different. How much further will the TT depreciate such that mileage/small body dings/seat wear will make minimal difference?? In other words, what will be the lowest price someone would be willing to pay for a mechanically functional 996 in the future?
The 996tt is the bastard child generation to porsche purists, but I find it hard to believe a 996tt with less than 90k in decent shape will fall below $30k in the next 5 years. Cars are always to be considered a depreciable item, but I think the majority of the depreciation has already occurred on these models. There isn't a 911 turbo past ~1990 that can readily be had for under $25k, and I doubt the 996 is going to be the first to plummet below that mark.
How many miles are on yours. A good condition x50 with less than 80k will fetch close to $40k all day long in the private party and value only goes up with less miles.

Damn wow porsche dealers must make some money on the backend they had a 2003 turbo with 36k selling for 52k over.

I'm just getting into the car business, and I've found that book value doesn't really mean squat. Trade-in values fluctuate wildly based on auction prices. Couple of things pop out at me right away. Miles, time of year, and location. Whoever quoted you is probably betting that they will have to sit on it through the winter. I've recently passed on two corvettes because I don't want them tying up cash and space through the winter. Show me a 114,000 mile Toyota 4 Runner and I can probably give you more than book trade-in for it simply because I can flip it fast. My business partner and I might buy a 997.2 C2 cab, but only if we can get it on the cheap since it won't sell for another 6 months.
Forget kbb and trade ins, see what like cars are going for.
Nobody's going to know what the bottom will be, but I'm hoping it will be like the supras and level off, and Begin to gain when people start realizing owning a 911 turbo is not so unattainable.

If you send me the details and options, I can give the market comp and where the car should sell. I just did this analysis last May. A quick and dirty is easy to do with the web but I'm happy to help

I think they will follow the base 993 example: Bottom out after 15 years at 20-25 and then begin to rise.
