Michelin PS2 Tire Issue!

You guys ever seen this before? It's almost like the tread is separating like a retreaded tire! 2.5 years old with 4000 miles! Needless to say I need a replacement. Anyone have a single PS2 315/25/19 laying around you are willing to sell me?

Looks like you hit a pothole REALLY hard?

Also, did you try to see if warranty will cover it?

Look for the build date on that sucker. All tire typically are warrantied against defects like that for 7 years.

Weird. I would have remembered hitting something, and I don't. I washed my car last week and know it was not there then.

I found the info on Michelin's website and will give them a call tomorrow. Although, I'm not optimistic.

I actually found that size used on Ebay. There are a couple large used tire retailers on there who usually have them. And before everyone bites my head off about buying used tires, you can get them specifically with no patches or plugs, with various tire tread depths as well. I have been very happy with my front set.

UPDATE: I contacted Michelin and they started a claim case. They required me to take it to a Authorized Michelin retailer to have them inspect it and contact Michelin. I took it to two different retailers and they both said it was likely caused by something like Turkish suggested and that Michelin would not cover it. So, I am back to looking for a replacement. I hope to find a used one, otherwise I will likely buy two new ones as opposed to one in order to match the tread wear (I'm hoping to avoid that $1000 nut)!

I've seen this kind of damage before. Most likely you've hit a pot-hole.You really don't need to hit it that hard. This is why I am on OEM 18 inch rims. Too many friends busted their tyres and rims on 19 especially on 20. 19 for looks and smooth roads = great. For pot-holes = not so good. Also, make sure you check your rim.

Never had any problems with my 20s. 18s look to small for me.

Two of my michelin PS2s developed a bubble on the sidewall. They were purchased through Discount Tire, I had the receipt, no warranty. I was told it was not a manufacturing defect but caused from hitting an object or chuck hole. I'm done with Michelin, OE on my Porsche and Lexus, happy with neither.

I buy all my tires from DT and always purchase the warranty for this reason alone.

Sorry to hear, I bet it was a pothole.
Dont lose hope with the Michelins, theyre great tires!

I would not get PS2, especially used. The tire is a really old design. PSS is much better and came out 3 years ago. So if you buy used on ebay, you don't have to worry about age of tires. Sometimes date code is helpful but if the tire wasn't stored indoor at room temp, a few months will harden the tires.

That is a sidewall failure. It probably started as a bubble that you didn't notice. When tires have a bubble, it's done.

Problem is the PSS tires don't come in the 315 size.

I had the exact same thing happen a couple months ago!! Funny as I don't remember hitting a pot hole and am very careful! I put a want to buy ad in the marketplace and a nice dude in Texas sold me one with about the same tread left (80%) for $150.00
shipped! I thing it is a design flaw and am moving on to a different tire when these are toast!!

i find myself facing this same dillema. i won't run different tread depths either and the chances of finding one woth 80% left is slim.. to none.

so.. what is it with n4 rated ps2's? i replaced them approx 2500 miles ago and while i do nip the berm of tight corners on occasion i have NEVER knowingly come into contact with ANYthing rt rear, and lo and behold. i have a sizable bubble with what looks like radial steel poking through the sidewall!

wont be driving that for long

so.. anyone want to venture how i will fare with my regular tire dealer/installer when i ***** to them about this "mfg defect" tomorrow? or will be this just be a straightforward "denial of claim" by michelin themselves, once i jump thru their hoops. fkn 500$ tire. 3 months. i'm sure theyll claim i hit something! ( but wouldn't a wheel or sidewall show telltale signs of that!? )

never had this issue with previous 3 or 4 sets of n rated ps2's that quite literally sat around for 5-7 years. no sh*it. my luck this car nickel and dimes me to death at $500-$1000 per nickel and dime
