today was supposed to be a great day, i finally had my PSI "quiet" version installed this morning and was loving the sound!, i actually thought to myself that my car with current mods was a great package for me, this was supposed to be the car that i was going to keep for years to come,

well, i stopped by my business to check on things and when i left, i took a left into the four way intersection right in front of my business, as i accelerated down the street, a chevy lumina decided to make a quick illegal u-turn from the far right lane across 3 lanes of traffic, he left me no where to go, i hit him broadside on his driver's door, thank god there were no injuries to the driver of the lumina, i only suffered some deep lacerations and burns on my left arm caused by the airbag deploying, actually all the airbags deployed and the roll over bars also,

needless to say my tt cab sustained major damage, nose, hood, passenger fender, door, suspension damage, radiator destroyed, etc...

again there were no major injuries and i feel bad for the lapse in judgement on the other driver's part, he is 86 years old, and was cited for the accident, of course that was after i initially wanted to punch him in the head,

i put a lot of time and effort into this car, and i truly was in love with this one, well, i just had to vent and i knew people around here would understand, it can be somewhat tough to explain to "non" car people the pain that is felt when a car is lost that you have an emotional attachment to.

thanks for listening.
So sorry to hear that. The same thing happened to me about 15 months ago in my then new 2004 Turbo Coupe. The culprit was also a Lumina. Anyway, glad you're alright, hopefully they'll total the car out and not try and fix it....

Mike I feel for you, 3 months ago my S4(daily) got nailed and I was just sooo mad and depressed. I should have it back in another month or so and I miss it sooo much. I know exactly what you are feeling its sucks getting your car wrecked. I wish you the best of luck with your insurance company cause as I learned the hard way they all SUCK big time. Just be prepared to be without a Porsche for a while and thankfull you are ok. Man I really feel bad for you cause its gonna get worse before its gets better.

At least you are OK. You may have some trouble with the mods being covered and some insurance comanies won't cover a modified car so be careful asking for it. Your car does not sound like it was too modified power wise so may not be abig deal. I hate this for you. You can always get another car. Every day above ground is a good day. Best of luck.

accident

Mike,

Do not mention your mods or the insurance company they will not cover the car regardless of who caused the accident.

Sorry to hear about the crash, similar event happened to me years ago in my 993TT and the insurance battled the entire time.

I had a brand new 993TT, and I did not want the car back because it was damaged goods.

Pray that they total the car and not try and fix it and give it back to you.

Why not. Actually, I think you are suposed to call your insurance company and let them know of modificatins so they can adjust value accordingly.

Although the old guy probably had a minimum limits policy, he is on the hook for the car and the value of the improvments. If he is underinsured, you uninsured motor coverage should kick in and cover his legal liability which his coverage fails to cover. His liability would be defined as the value of your car before the accident and the value of your car after the accident. I would include modifications in that calculation and have seen courts award the value of modifications or improvments.

I am only refering to engine mods that have been performed. If you have none then no worries.

If someone hit my car and I have $ 50k in engine mods, you can bet I am going after the $ 50k in engine mods. The issue will be whether one could salvage those mods and transfer to another car. If so, then your damages may be limited to costs associated woth removal and reinstallation.

Now if the wreck is your fault, you look to the policy for the contractual definition of fair market value.

I am just trying to provide you with a heads up, it may not make a lick of difference to your insurance company. However, if you open that can of worms my you possibly could come out on the wrong end.

In California the insurance companies do not want to pay a thing and when the car is an expensive exotic you can bet they are going to look even closer.

If you are to tell them your 450hp car had modifications that push it to 500,600, or even 700hp they may begin to think that something else was in play. This is just what I have seen and expreienced with other guys.

It is also common that your insurance company can get wind and pull your insurance based on these items.

It was just a little friendly advice, again sorry about your cab.

Mike, glad to hear you are okay. It sounds like the car will be totaled and a lot depends on which insurance company you use. Some companies like geico ect. go cheap route but some of the high end ones have great service. Anyways, maybe you can hold out for the 997 turbo or get on a list.
