HELP! New Fuel Pump broke twice within a year!
I left the car in the shop for a week. I want to update on what happened. I showed and explained to my mechanic (shop owner) the above suggestions. He said the fuel pressure valve is 3.8bar at idle. He did however replace the fuel pressure valve. He didn't say why he did that...
He's still unsure if there are other causes leading to the premature pump failures, so he gave me an old, but working pump for now. He didn't want to put in a new one just so it would fail again. I'm driving the car in great fear that it will die on me some where on the road...
I want to check if there's another suggestions or places to check. I'd welcome any comments.
Thanks!!

The chances of a fpr going is very very rare. Trust me i thought it was mine going also found out my fpr hose was off by the TB and the other side. Those 3 hoses always scare me.
The mesh, attached to the pump assembly, was replaced as a new part and it looked clean when taken out.
I also looked at the fuel filter when they took it out; they flushed it out and saw just a little bit of debris, but not in an amount that can cause blockage tho. The filter is replaced now.
Someone somewhere said about a 'filter' in the fuel sender unit. I don't quite get this... I know what it does, but is there something in the fuel sender unit that can cause the pump to overwork??
Thanks, guys. I really hope the root cause can be identified...
Anyway, the shop owner won't replace the pump for free, even though the previous two have been out of my own pocket... Since the pump motor is deemed dead, I'm thinking about saving a few bucks by retrofitting the pump assembly with a Bosch 044 pump motor. It's a 5bar, 300lph part, for under $100. Will this be a liability solution? Any cautionary notes? Thanks!!
[QUOTE=porsche996tt_tpe;4029767]Is it possible that the mechanic could have mis-installed the pump to cause early failure? The car was driving fine and fuel consumption seems normal...[/QUOTe
everything around your car is checked and should be okay...so the only possible reason is a used or def fuelpump ...it is possible the checkvalve after the pump is blocked or def...fuel lines inside the tank are not correct..but your car is running fine and and the fuelpressure is okay
sometimes the fuelpump relay has a intermitted failure

Before you try and install a 044 (which is bigger then the factory pump review this thread.

Here is a picture of an 044 pump installed in place of the OEM pump. This was done for me many years ago and combined with a second in-line 044 pump in the fuel filter location. As I understood it at the time, it was neccessary to increase the pressure and flow at the source (OEM pump) and then combine that incresed pressure with a second 044 pump in-line pump in order to properly run the K24/18G's with larger injectors. Back in 2007 when I had this done, I believe it was customary to rebuild the OEM pump in unison with adding the second pump.
Lot's has changed in the 996TT tuning world since then and I think this process has been shortcut to just adding the second in-line pump and leaving the OEM pump alone.
Not positive how adequate this system would be considered today. I may go to Alpha 30's soon and hope the two 044's will do the job...
