The tires I run are 235/35/19 in the front and 315/25/19 in the rear. I ordered a new Pilot Sport PS2 which was on there before and it has about 3/32 more tread then the other 3 tires which approx. 5 months old (they are 6/32)

I have had it mounted and on the car but have not moved the car. I have an appointment tomorrow to have the tire shaved down to match the other tires which are 6/32 while the new tire is 9/32.

My question is; is it safe to drive about 30 miles 60-70 mph to get to where my appointment is to have it shaved or will it ruin my differential in that short period of a time?

I have heard horror stories with AWD cars and only replacing 1 tire but I am going to have to shaved to match the rest so I am really only worried about the drive to my appointment?

Has anyone else had any experience with this?

Also what PSI do you run in your tires if you share the same size as mine? I have 35 PSI in the front and 40 PSI in the rear.

Thanks in advance for any advice!
I have no first hand experience here but if it were me, I would pull the wheels off the car and in another car bring them to the shop that is going to shave the tire and then reinstall yourself. 30 miles sounds short and probably ok but don't know if I would risk it myself.

I run the same tire sizes as you and the same pressures

Does anyone know other manufacturers that make tires that size, but won't mess up our AWD system? I have read all those threads RE: tire ratios etc, but would like real world feedback if anyone has tried anything other than PS2s for those sizes (235/40/19, 315/25/19) thanks
Sounds like you need an alignment unless your driving is just very aggressive. PS2s should last longer and are warrantied to 20k miles. Not saying you will get 20k miles but 5k-8k is low. There are other brands out there but it is limited. I run Toyo Proxes T1R. I don't think PS2 comes in 235/40. Perhaps you looked at the tire size incorrectly or its another brand. If you want to find tire sizes that won't mess up the 996tt differential, use tire rack's specs on tires and match tire diameters. Interestingly enough not all tires with the same aspect numbers are even the same size which is why the tire rack specs help. There are other sizes that work but may require modification to work well (e.g wheel spacers) to prevent rub depending on your wheel offset. Check out this thread for all the info you need.

That said, I would personal not hesitate to drive 30 miles on it for the purpose you state. I refuse to believe our differentials are that sensitive at 3/32nds!
Nothing hotly contested about what he's talking about, he's saying left to right not front to rear. On that topic however, Porsche has replaced more viscous diffs on 996s with stock wheels/tires than aftermarket, just ask a parts guy at your local dealer with a bit of history. Viscous diffs suck *** and fail for no reason, spend some time at the drag strip and you'll understand. The whole tire debate is ridiculous.

^^ +1

Yep, no LSD means no issues with size difference.

akimoto168 is infamous around these parts
Are there any brands that come close to PS2s rolling diameter ratio for the sizes mentioned? I am kinda sick of spending so much on tires. Actually, it's so bad that I may go back to stock rims.

you guys dont have awd cars.
you have a front differential that probably hasnt worked in years.
this topic has been beaten to death over and over and over and over again.

you can put any tire size you want, nothing will brake. nothing will get damaged.

Haha a picture is worth a thousand words. Never trust those numbers on the side of the tire!

You are right. Poor choice of words. Just meant that it was a great thread that showed how much debate there is on this topic. I don't know enough about our 4WD system to have a mindset one way or the other. The only real factual information in that thread is in regard to differing tire sizes that supposedly have the same numbers on the side.
