I think the issue here is the cost of this job plus the other things I should do once the motor is out. I mean, if I am going to do this work I should do a water pump and a clutch. I was also thinking of upgrading the intercoolers. There is another shop that does great work that came in at around $4k for the welding work so this job all in could total $8k-$10k. At that price does it even pay to keep this car? I mean it's a $40k car and the service is 1/4 the price.

Truthfully, I don't have to do any of this work and the car should be fine. But I do a few track events and don't want to chance things. This is the dilemma.

Hey bmwtmx....not sure who you spoke to but this is something that we do pretty regularly. In fact, it's something we recommend to most people any time the engine has to come out for any other reason. We do NOT use the pin/epoxy method....we weld.

Typically to R/I the engine and weld all the lines, you'd be looking at no more then $3500 for the whole job. It's basically all labor and not really that difficult, but it does take quite some time. Give me a call or shoot me an email if you have any questions. tomp@championmotorsport.com

on a motor thats disassembled or parts not put on motor i have a quote for 400 (max rpm motorsports) to prep and weld in coolant fittings.

i even have a few spare parts from my multiple engines that i could get repaired and offer as cores
