I wanted to provide an update because you were all so helpful, thanks again. I decided it would be in my best interest to take it back to the shop like Nick stated. On my way into work this morning I stopped by the shop and spoke to the manager who was very shocked to say the least by what I told him and offered to send a flatbed immediately. The car was transported to the shop, the manager acknowledged it was definitely overfilled and admitted the guy only drained it in two spots. They completely drained the oil, cleaned out the intake.. He said that was the extent of it, I have everything documented on letterhead stating "it was a mistake on their part and there is no apparent damage at this point in time". I picked the car up tonight and it drove fine, so I hope all is good. Thx for all the help guys!

Every 6 months somebody turns up with a "overfilled oil change" story. This thread will likely be referenced for the next guy just like the last one was for you.

Moral of the story, do it yourself after researching online or take to Porsche. It seems this always happens from "high quality German Indy shops".

Happened to me too but what pissed me off was the shop saying other things could be the culprit for the plumes of smoke I was seeing. I ended up going to a quick lube place and they identified I was about 3 quartz over. We took pics and I ended up going back to the original shop and they acknowledged their error. The mechanic that was working on my oil change got sick and was sent home during the change. They dropped the ball but we put everything in writing stating the overfill error. No issues for me since but I'm not going back to them for an oil change.

No sir... the original shop that did the bad oil change was an indy European auto repair shop. They use to work on my previous '85 Targa. When he was giving me excuses about the smoke plumes, he was also saying they were booked up and couldn't bring my car in to check it out in a timely fashion. I got fed up and went to the quick lube just for the evaluation and draining of oil (took pics and got mgmt confirms in writing too), then went back to the indy spot to get an explanation and written confirmation on their error. Plus, they changed the oil again no charge.

Agree 100%. If you are not mechanically inclined enough, pay to have it done at a certified Porsche dealer and don't complain about the cost. These cars are not 4 banger accords you can take to the jiffy lube; dealer maintenance is expensive you should have factored this in when you were deciding to buy the car. No offense, just telling it like it is.

Yep 4 drain spots..
The oil tank is the main one for draining.

If they did not drain the dry sump tank then it will be more than cleaning the inlet required, the boost hose from the left turbo will be full of oil like the U bend in a sink !!!!

Thanks Johnspeed for letting us know how many drain plugs. I'll have to raise the car and find a DIY of how to do the oil change on it. First time ever getting under one of these cars so I want to make sure I don't screw things up. OR take to Porsche but I'm sure it's an overpriced standard oil change.

OP should post the shop name just in case anything happens in the future to another member. Just my 2 cents. Glad it all worked out tho. :-D

The tank ,which lets most of the oil out and then the engine case one are the main two..
The ones for each turbo hold so little of oil and for some reason never looks as dirty as the rest of the oil,,, actually I know some that don't drain those at changes?
