4080 goes to the track!
I find it harder to drag race a 1300 whp /1100 lb ft car than a 800 whp/750lb ft car but thats just me.I also find if the car makes a lot of torque right off idle and can be launched out of the hole at 3k instead of 5k easier but that is also just me.Yes we are all crazy….
Yes I see your point there clearly and you are right....
But I assumed you were referring to the spool factor with smaller turbos where a bigger turbo has more lag so it would be less violent as a general rule if you were talking the same general HP/TQ..
Not true.Thats because the small turbo Porsches are easier to drive at the strip.I will tell you that if you roll race any of the small turbo Porsches vs the big turbo porsches the small turbo porsches ail get embarrassed.Chris's car runs real good and he is an excellent driver from what i have seen but Evoms car and his car are two different animals. There is nearly a 20mph difference in the 1/4.I just think you haven't seen somebody crazy enough to beat the hell out of one of the bigger 1300 hp porsches at the strip to get a good time.I will tell you that a gt30 turbo porsche would have a tough time at TI or tx2k.
the evoms car while its a 997 and not exactly apples to apples with the ups gt2 is running 9 sec 1/4 mile with almost 1400 hp. that should put the car in 7 sec range not 9 sec. so what you have is a 7 sec car running 9's in a car class were that is an awesome time.
personally i think that roll racing has become so popular BECAUSE its so hard to launch a high hp car that many won't put the seat time in to do it. roll makes it easier but thats just my opinion

are def for the mile events and we agree that the smaller turbos are better
managed at the strip and we agree that the evoms car is a flat out race car ergo
a different animal. As for roll racing, well I didn't bring it into the equation but
I think it stands to reason that a turbo that pumps 70+ lbs per minute vs. a
turbo that's in the 40s to 50s lb per minute will smoke the latter up top.
But I stand by my original statement, with the new addendum concerning roll racing. Big turbos on our cars aren't necessary unless you are doing mile events
and roll racing 1000+ wheel cars on the interstate.
Never said it couldn't be done it is just harder and the 5 or so that have the hp to do it just seem not to care enough to try it.
I think we are agreeing on most points here. I was very clear that the big turbos

In the end it's a matter of taste and preference. Personally speaking, for the money I
spent to build a 800 whp car, I could have built an 1100 whp car. Would the 1100 hp
car be faster up top? Well, physics dictate that it would be significantly faster and
quicker at a certain point. But I would have to make some major sacrifices in other
areas because physics dictates there is no free lunch ( 1st law of thermodynamics )
So I went for some major weight savings and a modest turbo setup. I don't even have
3076s and my 60-130 is faster than most 35 cars. As it sits right now, it's the 5th
fastest on the list and I'll assure you my neighbors are all using much larger turbo
setups. And for the record, this car is FAST up top. But in reality, very few people
race above 160 mph on public streets. And the kicker is, I have a car that is a hoot
from red light to red light. If I lived in Houston, I would buy another 996 TT and
get the biggest setup money could buy lol. Those crazy bastards would eat me alive
on their 200 mph interstate pulls.

lol and soon you will! When is your car gonna be ready?

LOL, "Nail on the Head Randy"! Along with the Texas Invitational, small turbo Porsches simply can't hang. Hell, now 1200HP cars are on the low power end of the cars in these events. We trap 165-170 while the 1800hp cars are trapping 185-190. It's pretty ridiculous really.
The Porsches do "launch" much quicker and hope to stay out in front long enough to finish first.

not always!
btw, todd, on that 80-180 pull I posted it looked like you were easing over into my lane too, but I was well out of harm's way

,oh well ! What turbos?
I was about 100 feet trailing BHT and CRR when CRR decided he wanted to shake Todds hand at 80mph. The delayed reaction from Todd was only second to Cam's epic lane change. For a moment I had flashbacks of driving in Punta Gorda Fl. Though watching Cam's gopro roll a 1/4 mile down the highway was entertaining as well.
