Wavetrac LSD VS Guard 60/40??
got my wavetrac today. as for oils the sheet in the box says use whatever the car manufacturer suggests. if you want to upgrade to a high performance oil wavetrac recommends mogul. they specifically say DONT use shockproof or friction modifier oils.
unit weighs in at 18.5 lbs
so heres a few pics of the unit before it goes into the car!

normally i would but my car is in atl getting the full build done so ill just let them install it. trans and engine are out so it won't take much to do it.
remove the old diff (side cover and 2 bolts that hold the axle shafts in) pull out the diff and remove the ring gear. install it on the new wavetrac. reinstall and check for backlash , shim as needed. reinstall side cover and axle shafts

just got a call about the install and needing a certain "puller" to install this, so it might be a straight install but i guess it's not just a press that is required.
but my trans is in pretty good shape, 'cept for some bearings
whew....

just wanted to shout out to sambo here for the help with fast parts and speed gallery out here who are fast, knowledgeable, and about the best you're gonna do out here in chinatown. plus, you don't have to talk to them much.
a ten day turn on a r&r gearbox repair ( just a cpl bearings.. yes, i double clutch
) and the wavertac install/clutch etc.
first impression of the work on an la freeway in friday pm traffic. the car runs just fine
more ( obviously ) to follow once i stretch it out in its element
but i'm sure this is gonna be great bang for the buck. i can feel it.
add: ok first run. i tailed a new f type r jag up some very tight corners and pushed this old guy as fast as his new car would go.. what was he thinkin?! he let me by
first impression without eliminating the front weight and just with the wavertac installed and this is scary in just the way i had hoped,.. still with psm blinking like it was x'mas morning
it's a new level of adrenaline, and there is enough power to the wheel(s) now to get into serious trouble and i will make adjustments with pleasure. next up axles and front diff removal. this was a good idea.

thanks. there's no time like the present
i'm gonna take off the added front end weight first and see if i can discover why i need all new suspension stuff. as of now, i don't feel anything lacking. it has transformed the car already.

996 gt2/3, 997 gt3, carbonetics, Guards, Porsche motorsports.
996/7: 996 has stronger spider gears then then the 997. The stock clutch packs are weak but can be fooled with
both will greatly benefit from guards clutch packs. there are also a few ramp types out there. Weak cast side cover.
Carbonetics: Refer to post #60
Guards: high quality. fully rebuildable. you can get a upgraded side cover for the diff that uses a larger bearing and is adjustable for pre load (of the bearing) from the outside. Choice of ramps. billet construction
Porsche ms: High quality unit, fully rebuildable. choice of ramps. billet construction.

Can you share what can be "fooled with" on the stock disks? I have a gt3 LSD with disks that are not yet shot. What kind of mileage can the "fooled with" disks usually last? Thanks...
Help please with wavetrac installation
I'm trying to install the wavetrac TBD and i have a question regarding the installation of the screw to connect in with the stub-axle(hope i'm giving it the correct name). In the oem differential there is a hole that the srew goes in. In the wavetrac there is no hole. Can somebody help please?
