coolent pipe bonding

Another one. This is the one that you have to take the engine out for.

Good pictures Pat. Can you tell us what kind of glue you are going to used? Or are you getting them welded?

I would have just welded those pieces, what if the jb weld doesn't hold and it starts to leak again?

I would say weld is the best, but a good bond with a high solids epoxy when the parts are prepped correctly is fine. I do not like the pin fix. Porsche said it wasn't the glue it was the poor application of glue or there lack of that was the problem. If it is a lack of glue I think the pin method could leak at some point. Bonding is an accepted practice in aerospace. That said it is all about the application and prep of the bonding that makes it work. A poorly prepped and or applied bond wil not hold, but a correctly prepped and applied bond will basically last a life.. The configuration of the parts in question puts the bonding agent in shear whitch is the strongest for bonding to boot.

I agree about the bonding should hold up especially since its used in much harsher conditions then our engines. I would pick welding first but don't see while if prepared correctly your fix shouldn't hold up fine.

You're able to see and clean up all the excess glue that is squished out of the top when the parts are pressed together. There has to be that much excess glue squished out on the inside as well. Were you able to remove that excess glue that would otherwise reduce the ID of the passageway?

Good deal! I agree that a good epoxy applied properly is gonna last a long, long time.

Good job!

Good Work!

I love a good do it yourself project. As others have mentioned it will probably last a life time. The only draw back is some race tracks dont care how it it bonded, they require welded or pinned to run on the track.

Maybe I will go ahead and pin in addition to the JB weld then that would solve the potential track problem. Roger that.

so you spent countless time cleaning each fitting, mixing the jb weld applying it liberally all over inside and out. let it dry for a complete day then spent more time cleaning the inside of each fitting to ensure the passage isn't blocked and now will drill and pin each fitting to ensure you can race.

seems like the 2 hrs my shop spent welding the fittings was money well spent!
