Call it rice if you want, but once you have rebuilt a 996TT motor, yer gonna do whatever it takes to not ever have to do it again.

I like this pod and may go with it. In the link it says it fits up to a 2001 911. Whats the difference, and what year is your car OP?

Its 2004, I don't think the steering column has changed from 01-04, im sure its a generic part across the porsche 911 line.

I'll be running a gauge screen with a standalone. It's possible to setup warning lights for lean conditions and shift lights - I've actually got one of those progressive shift lights I wouldn't mind using. Placing the ProEfi gauge is going to be "fun" but I've also seen adapters to send gauge information to video displays like my stereo. I've got a gauge being installed down low like Pwder for displaying intercooler information. A/F and boost are two things I'd like to be able to monitor too...

In the next couple of weeks I will be selling the Dgauge set up including the factory mount as shown in my post #38. I actually have a brand new spare Dgauge I will be selling as well. Both Dgaude units have the latest Porsche flash..

s65e90 is infamous around these parts
I have a gauge pod on the steering column housing my autometer boost gauge. I don't think it's rice at all to want to know whats going on. The lower cubby gauges aren't visible at all. You need something in the line of sight. The steering column setup is perfect.

The dual pod steering wheel setup does block all of the stock idiot lights tho. Any issue with that for you guys running it?

The steering wheel mount by the OP is 2-gauge.

I am the only one running this setup to my knowledge here on 6 speed on the 996tt forum. I found it online while searching for a while.

You can still see the idiot lights, you just lean up a little bit and look over the pod.

But when you get to modding at this level most of those lights for certain faults are locked out via the tune, catless, mafless, 2nd air pump delete.....and you will usually know right away in a bigger way that something is wrong like a boost tube slipping off, bad spark plug...etc.

Also, I naturally stay on top of the maintenance more often like oil changes and spark plugs. So in reality that pod is super convenient and very functional while tuning and safety checking the car on practice runs and while datalogging. Just an added safety feature in my eyes.

I'm gonna go with either the dual pod you chose or get the single pod one that I listed the link to.

Seems like it ought to be possible to do something with the two idle A/C vents. I might take a look at that although I suspect my CAN logger from ProEFI is going to be the real pita to locate somewhere. Stuck to the windshield like a GPS maybe

you need a remote usb plug so you can mount it and hide the back. ill show what I'm doing with mine in a week or so when its done. this is a huge feature of the can logger as it datalogs every pid available in milliseconds all at the same time

heres what layinback did with his

Unfortunately I have an 8inch Alpine in that spot, an IC gauge below it with a volume **** next to it, and below that my A/C Mind you if I actually had my CAN Logger shipped to me it would be easier to figure out where to put it but apparently Undercover still hasn't gotten any in to shop me <sigh> I've not had my car for awhile but get it this week so I can begin in earnest to figure out all of this. I will definitely be running a USB extension off of it though so I can easily pull logs off.

mine will be down for about 2 months for some super secret high hp mods, if you want ill let you use mine so you can figure out what you want to do. I'm going to build a bracket that mounts it under the gauge pod just under the hazard switch and angles slightly towards me. no more suction cup on the windshield
