2004 996TT...best aftermarket intercoolers?
The coolers that use bigger diameter hoses,, like AWE,, are plug and play also.. The intercoolers spigots are bigger diameter which is better and then the hose size is bigger then tapers down near the factory connection on the other end.. Plus those type of coolers come with the hoses..
We actually just dropped the price quite a bit on the AWE Tuning 996TT Performance Intercooler Set, which testing showed an impressive 55F decrease in intake air temp.

I would pressure test each gtrs IC before putting it on... there are way too many members with blown end tanks and or hoses popping out... if it passes the test it will be fine...

997.2 ICs are a great product. I've been tracking them for several year without any issues whatsoever at 1.2 bar. They are very lightweight to boot. Most of the aftermarket coolers are very heavy in comparison and will add 15-20lbs or more to the back of the car. The 997.2 cooler are the only ones that have been backed up with solid independent data NOT supplied by the manufacturer.

Just my .02
Ps. Not to mention if they pop it throws weird codes which is another nightmare trying to figure out what's wrong.
Problem is those who experience this usually don't care about posting because they are so fed up in the end. I actually ask them to do so so more members get an accurate independent opinion. Coming from me doesn't really serve justice.
I think the 997.2 are good coolers for the price.
I also believe that you don't need to have independent testing,,most can tell if it has good end tank and spigot design for flow,, Plus by pressure testing for core quality besides looking them over..
I think AWE did a good job with there testing in which they showed good info which by looking at there coolers compare to others.

OP: biggest thing you need to think about with intercoolers is what you plan on doing with the car. Is it street/drags, or is it roadcourse/track/autobahn running?
Some intercoolers are good at short throttle blasts and show great temp. drop ratings but under continuous use cannot efficiently disperse the energy(street/drags)... some intercoolers are able to continuously wipe away heat from the core but may not show as well in 'lab' testing(roadcourse)...
997.2 intercoolers are a great deal(my route to go), but not to say other brands might be better suited to your individual plans.
Cheers,

OP, All Intercoolers are for helping cool down the charge period..Any will be better then standard ones.
Bigger core sizes have more volume which there are pros and cons depending on the set-up and conditions.
Usually a 3.5 to 4.5 will do the trick.
Markski can make anything you want/need.

They easy to get to and well worth the money saved. Just do some studying.

Some great posts in here and I think 993GT nailed it -what is the car being used for?
Markski, hard to argue with your experiences as well. I would recommend that anyone buying RS coolers go ahead and check the factory crimps and Araldite (or some other suitable epoxy) the end tanks before they go on the car. You don't want a tank blowing and distorting the tank mount area in the process. For a stock shortblock car, they're hard to beat after reinforcement given the price.
The ETS 16 row pictured is a nice option as well.
I'm surprised no one has tried the Wagner ICs yet -cast end tanks with 2.5" inlet/outs and hoses for ~1400.
All in all good to see IC pricing trends leaning towards reality, though I do disagree that every aftermarket cooler is better than stock -there's one core I wouldn't put anywhere near my car. You can find it for sale cheap all over ebay.
In other IC news, I just got my hands on a set of Champion Gen 2.5 coolers for testing. More to follow on that!
