I bought a 996 t cab a couple weeks ago. it was supposedly a 700 hp car. the 700 number wasn't material to me since I liked the upgrades and 700 seemed excessive for my needs. The car is to me insane fast but I don't think it's 700 hp.

1. I hear that on the standard 700 build, 700 is only reachable with race gas (100 plus) and certainly not 91 octane out in ca. even even with a full 700 build, on regular premium it's a 650 flywheel car. right?

2. I have garrett K28's with external tial wastegates but everything else is stock x50, injectors, IC and fuel system, except a custom exhaust (and stage 3 unsprung clutch parts and cross coilovers). I just changed the tune to GAIC, high performance (or whatever their top tune is called)

I've been told that in it's current configuration, it's probably between 580-600. does that sound about right? another way of looking at is that that garretts, the tune and the custom exhaust add between 135-155 hp over the x 50 package. I've seen 1.4 bars but I haven't floored it yet or taken it to anywhere close to redline a high gear (because of fear, it's so friggin fast).

been told that if I wanted to get up to the 700 build (650 on premium gas), I'd need 60 pound injectors, GT2 fuel delivery system, headers and a couple other things. I don't think I'm going to do it, seems like many many thousands of dollars for another 70 hp on a car that is probably too fast as it is. but just wanted to know if that sounds about right to the build guys

another question:
I have access to 100LL avgas. is that kind of gas usable in this kind of car. 30 to 40 hp increase like the difference between 650 and 700 because of the gas?

I've heard that avgas burns slower. I"ve used it a couple time in my classic corvette. noticed it was alittle peppier. so could I use avgas to see what an extra chunk of hp might feel like or for a cheep extra thrill?

thanks

I personally only look at WHP. Who cares about crank. And most tuning outfits advertise crank HP. Same as manufacturers.

Hi Ricky. Is the car black? i think I know it from the shop I used to work at and heard it was sold. I figure there are not too many 04 cabs in CA with the "K28" or Tial/EVO K16 with the 28 inside. Hit me up if I can help.

And yes our 91 fuel here sucks. I think you are right on that you have 600ish hp and with a few changes you can hit 650 on pump and 700 with race fuel.

i had a gmg stage 2+ build on my car when i bought it. advertised at 650 hp. giac 91 tune. upgraded to 103 file and dyne a whopping 490 rwhp! advertising # are a joke.

if you run 100ll av gas you will kill your cats in short order. av gas is leaded not unleaded race gas which is what the highest # they quote is used

I am skeptical of any so called "700hp builds" that don't have at least rods and head stud upgrades. Way too much power for reliable 700hp which is what should be the goal. Can it run 700hp on stock internals? Yes, but you shouldn't. Sounds like a nice car that will probably be fine at 600hp crank.

I was told 882 whp when I bought, looked neat, but when to find out it was about 600whp current tune (no timing/lean @ss f*ck). Lots of rats sorted and now 826whp @ 22psi, soon to be more. It's all about getting it sorted and done right, don't cut corners bc they don't hold long.

I'll give you a buzz.

Sometimes people exaggerate the #'s or are told there is more than there is. I have also seen cars with a kit have parts removed and re-tuned. If Speed gallery did it back then it was an EVOMS kit. Now who knows. but we can see and sort it out. glad to hear she runs good now. Maybe it was de-tuned at some point or the guy just lied.

I will try to find the history and call you. SG has changed quite a bit lately. Just race cars.

With the supporting hardware (stock), 700 hp is definitely a stretch. Contact Sambo, he'll get it dialed in for you!

actually tried it recently in second, but it got close to redline too quickly.

on I-5 downshift from 6 to 5 and stepping on the gas it was so quick just pushing it three quarters that it got to triple digits in a second or two,

600 is still nice. Why not just go toss it on a dyno?

doesn't really matter to me whether it's 578, 589 or 602. just wanted to get a ballpark number and get a sense of what I'd need to do to get it to the 640-650 on premium gas which is what these 700 builds supposedly do. basically I'd have to spend at least several to many many thousands of dollars to take it to the next level which is another 40-60 hp. which is only around 10 percent more. doesn't seem worth it for a cab and just a fun car and one I won't seriously track, but I had to work this through after getting some of the parameters.

I'm guessing you're around 600 crank which translates to roughly 510 at the rear wheels. I have a somewhat similar build. Much, much faster than the stock X50 I drove for 20k miles and faster than a 997TTS with just a tune (run them at the track many times on the straight and I pull on them consistently).
