Clutch Issue

Hi Guys,

I own a '01 TT w/ 17k miles. About 8-10 months ago my clutch became very stiff before starting the car and would occasionally loosen up from time to time, if left off for an hour or two it would generally tighten up again. Once started it's typically fine but does make an annoying sound on occasion.

The information I have read would make me lean toward the accumulator, but wanted to run this by you guys first. Is it typically just the accumulator or slave too? Any steps I can take to diagnose what might be going on? Is it okay to drive the car like this??

Thanks!!

agree with everyone. replace all at one time. nothing worse than replacing the cheaper accumulator, only to have to buy and r&r the slave a few weeks later.

there are countless threads in here since this has been happening to us for over ten years. search clutch and clutch slave n here. easy fix. you can drive it if it's just stiff. but only for a short period of time since sometimes when these things fail completely? pentosin goes with it. a mess.

change em out. and gl

I'd take a look at the symptoms leading up to only 1300 miles a year. Drive that baby!

Sorry. GL with the recommended fixes.

I had the same problem last year. I bought a new accumulator and slave, but just changed the accumulator. It's been good for a year so far.

It could be a five minute job to change the accumulator once you figure out where it is, and make a tool to change it. The new one had a different size hex on it than the old one also.
