the biggest problem your going to have with a tip is you can't remove the awd and go rwd. only manuals can be done. so your stuck with awd which is a detriment if your into the straight line speeds.

about 6000$ to beef up the tip and close to the same to rebuild the 6 speed to handle 800 rwhp or more

before you sell your m3 or after you get your 996 tt come on up to columbus oh for timmayfest in june!

agreed.

only thing the tip ever did for me, was sell me on looking for a 6mt which was found days later. a tip was my first test drive of what was then a "modern" porsche turbo. the tip, well it's just too old school vw 411 for me ( ducking ). but i agree as a daily driver, it IS after all, still a porsche turbo ( albeit one your GF will want to drive ) but a pdk is a whole different story. i'd get out of my 6mt in a heartbeat for a 997.2 w pdk lol. just don't tell my car

also, what 32krazy has mentioned about someday wanting to convert to rwd is on point. it's gotta be 6spd and that future decision shouldn't be overlooked ( depending on how/what you intend on using the car for, of course ). but THAT.. ( rwd ) makes this car an entirely different force to reckoned with .

Definitely get a 6 speed every day of the week and twice a day on every day of the week ending in "day." They're far, far superior in every way.

The 6 speed will handle an enormous amount of power. There are many members on this board running 700+ HP/TQ without a single problem, and I know of cars running in the 1000 HP/TQ range just fine too.

The biggest thing you'll need to upgrade is the clutch, of which there are a number of different options. I run the Clutchmasters FX300 (often called the Stage 3) with a custom modded pressure plate, their own LWFW, and GT2 conversion with my ~600 HP/TQ and it handles it without a single issue. There are quite a few people running this same setup with 700-800 HP/TQ too. What you'll really need to do is decide on the power level you want to run first, then your budget, and finally how you want the clutch to feel before people can help recommend good setups since there are a lot of different combos out there.

Forget this idea. The costs and difficulty make it totally not worth it. Plus the 996 models were produced in very large numbers, so finding a 6 speed with the options you want shouldn't be very difficult.
