996 Tip or 6speed?

Ive decided to sell my 700 hp M3 and go with a 996. I found a great 2001 but its tip. Im not worried about driving a tip, but with my past big power cars a manual typically can hold the power better. Im making the big power on a stock M3 ZF tranny right now with no issues. What is the difference to what the TIp can handle vs the 6 speed? I know its mostly in the clutch packs slipping that causes heat and causes the failures-and I know that it will require a rebuild, but I dont want to go down that road until at least a couple years. Id like to upgrade the fuel and turbos first, then the tranny. Will it handle 550-600 whp before the rebuild? The only thread I can really find with good info is this one:

https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...-thread-6.html

Also, as far as miliage, the car Im looking at has 73k, I can find some with under 50k in my range but I just dont see there being much of a difference.

Thanks, and hope this isnt too redundant of a question on here.

I'm not into the high torque/hp that you might be looking for. But I test drove a lot of 996 models before I ended up with a 2005 Turbo S manual trans.

The Tip trannies of that generation just felt too sloppy for me. And I had much better control with the 6MT.

That said, I do think that the more recent PDK double clutch transmission would probably change my mind. If the PDK were available, I would go that route.

Yeah, sloppy/slower shifting is a worry of mine as well. I know you can change valve bodies for a quicker firmer shift, and I dont care about the feel of quick hard shift or stiff suspension as I prefer a feel more like a track car. But I hate a slow shifting auto. I may go drive a few out and test them to see what I like. But the ultimate decision will go to power capabilities in stock form. I found a tip car I really like, but may have to pass on it.

Tiptronic will not handle 600 whp without upgrading. Ask BlackHorseTurbo on this, he's been there, done that.

16G is about the max turbo you can run with the Tip.

How about the 6 speed? I assume north of 6-700whp? Im making that with a stock E36 M3 ZF now. So I hope the 996 6 speed would hold as much.

You'll need a beefier clutch, but the transmission itself will handle it. The stock clutch seems to be good for about 400-425whp.

Just curious, is it tough to swap a 6 speed in one? I have done a few swaps before but I imaging a rear engine is a bit different animal to convert to manual.

Gatcha. Similar to other cars. Ive found a few other 6 speeds and I believe Im only looking for 6 speeds now. lol. Now fuel and turbos. Im leaning towards tial turbos for space, custom manifolds, and enough fuel flow for E85.

Id like to find one that already has upgraded intercoolers, ic pipes/TB, and exhaust so I dont waste moneys on the easy parts.
