K24/K16 Turbo Rebuild Question
K24/K16 Turbo Rebuild Question
Hey all,
2001 911 TT - PO upgraded to K24's and high output exhaust. Yesterday noticed reduced boost pressure and a RPM concurrent whine at low RPM's that I am pretty sure is the driver side turbo failing.
I don't drive track and so most of the K24 High RPM power is a bit wasted on me, but I do like the idea it would work. Been doing a lot of reading where many recommend keeping the K24 compressor side but during rebuild using the k16 exhaust side for quicker spool.
First question is, if I'm not working with a speed shop, how/who do I remap the fuel and ECU? I also want to switch back to stock muffler and assume the back pressure needs some kind of accounting for.
Second question is, I've found a few different shops who can do the turbo rebuilds and what should I expect to pay. There is one guy (Scroll Works) who rebuilds a lot of turbos and offers a warranty, and is only $2000 k for both units. But if there is a "go to" shop for this work I want to use them.
Thanks for the help,
Kelly

Hi Kelly,
It was nice speaking with you and just realized this is you also. I think we are on the right track with a set of refreshed K1668 billet turbo's and a tune to match. We will get a proper shop to install and pressure test it all. You will love the results! More power and less lag.

Blouch can do a nice job rebuilding your K24s and upgrade them to 18Gs while you are at it.

True,, but they will only do it for their group of tuners now...Not direct ..
If anyone is interested, we can have the 18G wheel upgrade done to your K24's and provide a Softronic tune to go with them. Coincidently, we have a set of K24's going out today for the 18G billet upgrade and will be providing the tune along with our X-cellerator exhaust...

John, I thought you were an EPL tune guy?
Thanks for the kind words guys Kelly, sorry if your inquiry swerved out of control LOL.
This may turn into another case of "a small itch can be scratched easily" or, hey why not go for some big horsepower?!?!
In this case we are thinking about my By Design/Tial A68mm hybrids. Available in K16 and K24 trim depending on how big your itch is! Being in this business for over 15 years I have had great success with Tuning partnerships from EVO, GIAC, Proto, Softronic and "Mr boost test" - Markski at 911Tuning! In case many of you have already started a path with one of these top-notch tuners...I feel this variety takes advantage of what's out there for each users needs.
Cheers

John, we were at one point, but made a change to Softronic over a year ago...
