Different core construction. Tube/fin vs bar/plate.

It's good if you can find them cheap. Otherwise the $1300 or so for 997.2 RS ICs are lighter and more efficient.

 

i have a set of 996 gt2 i/c i can let go cheap if you want them

 

Not worth the upgrade save your money

The improvements from the 996tt to the gt2 are very minimal... The gt2rs intercoolers however are a ton better.

Back when I went from gt2 to gt2rs (997.2 intercoolers), I instantly noticed my car pulled a lot less timing on WOT.

 

Somewhere I read it was 5% improvement. If you can find them for $100 and taking off the rear bumper already....why not swap em

 

5% improvement in terms of restriction to flow, in terms of cooling charge air? At what flow level/temperature? I imagine intercooler efficiency isn’t very easy to quantify meaningfully without some serious testing, too many variables.

 

get some cheap gt2rs IC's ! very high efficiency and the best in recovery but they will max out fast after 650whp cuz they bottleneck and heat soak! in my experience

 

Do a search for the 997.2RS IC DIY thread. The OP did a bunch of flow/temp/pressure testing and posted his results.

 

GT2RS are great intercoolers but they leak from the plastic ends just get 3.5 inch intercoolers.

 

Not a single leak on mine after 10k miles... Guy before me had them 5k I think. They pressure test very well. I don't have any leaks at all.

 

Some do some dont most do leak under pressure for the money you spent on them you could have 3.5 inch intercoolers wirh no plastic and have less pressure.
