For the past month or so my 2001 TT has been having ignition problems. The car will typically only start the second time I try. When I turn the key to the right the first time the ignition does not turn over -- at all. Usually the second time the car will start normally.

Now, the key is stuck in the ignition and will not come out. I disconnected the battery so that it doesn’t die.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be?

Sounds like you may have a bad ignition switch. You should bring it to your dealer to get it checked out asap. Good luck.

Also try applying a turning force to the steering wheel as you turn the key to remove it. First try applying a force to the left and then to the right. That might allow you to remove the key.

 

FUNNY, i have a 01 TT and just replaced my bad ignition switch..... my car started but the key was hard to remove/move.
