x50 value

I can understand why someone would pay more but honestly unless you leave it stock the added value is soon gone with mods switching of parts etc. I keep mine stock and would have welcomed the package but do not have it.

I've seen up to $6k - specifically one that I was looking at a few months back sold for a solid premium ($50K with 48K miles). Although I share some sentiments around the real "value" of the X50 package compared to stock, it certainly does add value given that it's not common (relative to the number of non X50 turbos). Look at the Jaguar E-Type that sold at Pebble Beach this year - it has three silly options that make the car no better, but triples value of them due to the "rarity" of them (i.e., flat floor, welded hood louvers, and exterior bonnet latches). I have yet to see many X50 cars with PCCB, so I'm hoping to capitalize on the rarity of those combined options if I ever have a desire to sell my car for something else (e.g. 997TT, 993 C2S, etc.).

It's a personal consideration. When the car was manufactured X50 was an option that was claimed to add a bit of horsepower for a substantial price.
During my year of looking for a 996TT I decided it was a must have. Then my brother who has been in Porsche sales for 10 years bought a 996TT Cab X50 on the secondary market for himself. It was one of the most highly optioned Porsche's I've ever seen with a MSRP just south of $170K. Anyway I drove it a few times, once full tilt in the canyon twisties.
I have also driven a few other 996TTs and have compared X50 to non. Before I made my purchase and studying everything I could I decided X50 didn't matter and I'd pay no more for it. In fact I actually would prefer a non X50 car everything else being equal. My non X50 definally spools faster and has more low end grunt than my brothers car.
I think from a 70 MPH roll on an X50 may out accelerate a non. In the canyon twisties with speeds from 30 MPH to about 115 MPH I definitely prefer the non.
So with that being said, the X50 package is not worth anything to me. I may even pay a bit more for a non X50. I don't think NADA adds anything, Kelly BB adds around $1500.

but to clarify i was dealing with a total loss payout and when my ins co came to me with an offer that would've otherwise been reasonably "fair" i then mentioned the x50 option and it's accompanying $17,800.00 factory option cost, and they immediately added the $5K to my loss payout.
needless to say i was pleased and immediately went out and and got a 16/24 car with the change lol.
i would say get an x50 car all else being equal but paying more or a premium for it just doesn't make a whole lot of sense, given there is so much one can do to tweak the car for their stated goals and the x50 car significantly lags.... until it doesn't!

Mine is a 2003 manual X50 with PCCBs and 38k miles on the clock. Hopefully you are right about it.

Just because it doesn't add value to you personally, doesn't mean that it doesn't add real value to the car. In general the X50's do seem to sell for a bit of a premium.

Maybe if I was a CEO of a Fortune 500 Co and special ordered a 996TT brand new I'd pony up the extra $18K for a few more horses. When you make a lot more money in the time it takes you to read about an option than what it costs you, why not? I'd most likely get the PCCBs, Sports seats, paint to sample, leather to sample and just keep going.

the remap/turbo's and ic's are improvements any way you shake em. they just "lag" is all lol. worth 17,800 in 02 money?? maybe ( probably ) not. especially when the tuner shops added stage 1,2/3 etc "kits" starting at maybe 5 grand later on. but the gains of an x50 car over a stock k16 are real, not imaginary.

It may be interesting to see acceleration times at higher speeds and see exactly what one gets for the additional $18K X50 package. Porsche claims 29 horsepower increase at 5700 RPM and 42 ft lb torque at 3500-4500 RPM.
My perceived value statement was referring to the secondary market.
Also I'm happy with my motor 100% stock. I'm a motor builder and tuner by trade and I don't want another project, lol.

numbers i always heard were 414 for k16 and 444 for x50. but who really knows and porsche has always been conservative with their advertised numbers. but i wouldn't know what to do with a 1.4 mph increase today anyway but it wouldn't surprise me if the 24 car was faster top speed by a bit?
but these cars need a quick spool to be practical so in many ways 16's were more daily usable power,.. especially on the street.
and agree on stock motor mine will turn 120,000 tomorrow by high noon lol
